When one has vision benefits with a company, and is normally
required to wear safety glasses on the job, will the eye exam
prescription for glasses also work for wearing contacts, or do 2
separate eye exams have to happen to do both?

You need two separate Rx's. But I assume that the OD can issue both at the
same time as a result of one exam.

The spectacle rx will be released right after the initial exam-
the cl rx will be released after the proper fitting, evaluation
and followup of the contact lens. Usually, there's an additional
fee for these services.
