Recognition Program

| I'd like the have the opinion of people who work in this field on this
project:
X-Ray Pattern Recognition Project
Use: To assist a health professional in detection of abnormalities in
X-Ray images
Summary: Algorithm is given a high-resolution image of an X-Ray on an
injury. The program will highlight abnormalities such as fractures or
tumors for the Health Professional to examine.
Concept: Program is designed to be "trained" in the same way a certain
chess program in the book Wyrm was made. The program was made by
inputting numerous play-by-play transcripts of chess games, in order
for the program to recogize and utilize the more intillegent moves.
This program will be given numerous X-Ray images of healthy individuals
as well as images which have already been examined and diagnosed, which
will be given to the computer along with a highlight of the
abnormalities. Theorhetically, the the program will begin to recognize
possible abnormalities on its own, or at least be useful in that it has
a high probability of detecting a possible abnormality.
This method is superior to manually creating the recognition process,
as the large amounts of data will provide the program with a more
accurate understanding of anatomy and its function.
Case in point: The simplicity of the project make it so that the
program can only be in a beneficial position to someone examining an
X-Ray. Many times doctors overlook evidence of tumors in X-Rays if the
X-Ray is for a different purpose. This program will simply provide a
warning if such a thing exists, and will allow a doctor to judge for
him or herself.
Note: Of course, this program is not intended or designed to replace or
supercede the reading of a qualified professional, but to assist the
professional in detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
Thanks for your time! Any comments are appreciated.

Do a literature search on Computer Aided/Assisted Diagnosis
