My son had a CAT scan for possible fatty liver disease and something
was found wrong with his kidney. Can someone help me understand what
this report means?
Below is some of the wording:

There appears to be a duplicated collecting system on the left Kidney
with duplicated left ureters at least at the upper pelvis level. The
renal pelvis to the lower pole moiety of the left didney is somewhat
prominent and there is some delay in opacification of the upper left
ureter. Mild relative ureteropelvic junction abnormality is not
excluded. Teh parenchyma of the lower pole is less thick measuring
about 12 mm rather than 1.7 cm of the upper pole.

Can someone please help me understand what this is saying and is this
serious?
Thank you for all the help you can give me.

Forget it, its just a long-wided description of a normal variation seen
quite often in kidneys. If your kids overweight I'd be much more worried
about that..

A duplicated collecting system on the left kidney?

I found this article:

http://www.emedicine.com/radio/topic226.htm

There are several radiographs way below. I guess there are two ureters
coming out from the left kidney, huh?

I don't know....how can this be treated? How did get into the
emedicine site?
Any information I can find about this will help me. My son is 17.
Thanks

The finding was that he has mild fatty liver disease which I believe is
caused by the medicine he is taking for something else.

I understand your anxiety very much, but I am not a physician. I can't
say anything influential. If I can take a look at your son's chart and
can view all the diagnostic images of his, maybe I can come up with
something. I know you are so desperate that you have to inquire Usenet
readers; however, it is pretty dangerous. You need to talk to your
son's doctor. Make an appointment and list all questions by then.
He/she should be able to answer all your questions until you understand.

Take care

Excellent advice! The usenet is not the place to get medical advice.

The OP should talk to his son's doctor. If his doctor is 'too busy' to
answer questions, then grab the Doc by the coat tail and slow him down.
You're paying him money for his knowledge and advice. If his cannot take
the time to answer his patient's questions and set their mind at ease, then
get another Doc.

The duplicated collecting system on the left kidney is a 'normal' variant
and requires no treatment.

Talk to your doctor. Get your questions answered. That is the reason he is
there. That is what you are paying your money for.
