Can someone out there help me with CT power injector protocols. Flow rate,
amount, delay time etc. Thanks.

| CT Injector protocolsWhat specifically are you needing? Power injector protocols will vary depending on type of scan (Neck, Chest, Routine Abdomen, Liver Protocol, etc.)
Also, what type of scanner are you using? Single Slice?
Multi-slice? What types of IV access, contrast type & volume?
Need a little more information to help you.
Have you tried looking at www.ctisus.com ? Very helpful site with scanning and injecting protocols

| I am working on a GE high speed Dxi single slice. We just got a power
injector for the first time.
We are using 100cc Isovue 250, an 18G agio cath. One stupid question, is the
delay time after the injection or from the beginning of injection? One
concern, the injector (I canšt think of the manufacturer) does not have any
way of detecting extravasation, how do you handle this? We have been
promised an inservice but havenšt yet as of two weeks (very dysfunctional
department). I donšt intend on using it before but I just want to get a head
start on information. Thanks for the help.

| Re: CT Injector protocolsI'm using a GE LightSpeed Plus 4 slice scanner with an injector that has been thru at least three scanners. Will be installing a second scanner later this year, and hoping for a dual head injector on the new machine.
Can't comment much about Isovue, as I've only used it maybe twice. We routinely use Optiray 240, 320 & 350. We use 18ga angiocaths for high rate injections (3cc or higher) and use 20 or 22 ga angiocaths for all other injections. I prefer a 20 as a minimum, but work with some who are scared to stick with big needles!
Our injector has no monitoring for extravasation either. We ALWAYS check the IV line with a saline flush prior to using if for power injections (especially on IV's we have not established, as the E.R. and floor nurses have a habit of not tighting the angio cath to the IV tubing- i hate contrast leaks!)
We also stay in the room for as much of the injection as possible while feeling the IV site for any signs of extravasation. I have not used an injector with an extravasation monitor, but have heard mixed things about them. Being there and feeling for yourself is your best bet, monitor or not.
Injection delays are figured from the start of the injection.
Glad to help.
