Can any one tell me an approximate cost of a PET scan in the USA or the UK?
Are these scans used routinely in post op assessment for things like
radiotherapy? Are they available widely in the USA or UK?

THese may seem like spurious questions, but there is a rationale behind
them!

Expensive. At my institution I think they normally run in
the several thousand dollar range.

PET is often used for follow-up of chemo and radiation therapy
to monitor changes in tumour size and activity.

hi joanne

i believe there are only 6 pet scanners in the country (uk) and they
cost around £1.5 million to buy and that much per year to run.
i think therefore that you would be paying around £10,000 for 1 scan.
