hi,

I'm a student of Gdansk university of Technology. Now I'm getting
prepare to write my M.A. thesis which is called "An interface in multimedia
databases in radiology". I have to build kind of interface which should
enable presentation of medical data from different, DICOM compatible and
non-compatible devices from multiple vendors. One of the first task which I
have to do about that is to analyze structure of medical data types
(images and signals) which are used in today's radiology systems -
first of all - incompatible with DICOM data types.

I'm addressing my query to any kind of technologists, professionals,
radiologists,
systems, software and equipment designers who's work is connected with
radiology data mining.

Well, as I said, now I'm going to start radiology data types research.
I'm going to find out what kind of data types are used in radiology. I know
that DICOM is the most famous standard in radiology. But I also know that
some devices provide his priopietary data types, so there is good reason to
build the interface: it is ability to centralized presentation of radiology
data (no matter what device it comes from, strictly: no matter what data
types it is). To make good design of that kind of system I need to know what
data types are used in today's radiology systems, need to know about their
structure, their coding, etc.
I'm turning to You to ask if You could share with me any technical
documentation, articles or other information about the structure of
data types which are used in contemporary radiology devices from different
vendors.

Besides a very helpful for me are any examples of incompatibility,
examples that shows that data from one device does not work on the other
one. Examples which can show incompatibility beetween different equipment in
presentation layer or any incompatibility in communication and data
exchange. I wonder if you had faced up with that kind of problem.
If You had, could You describe me what sort of incompatibility it was ?
I would be a very thankful if You could give me some more details about the
problem (what kind of devices or what kind of data types it involved, what
was structure of that data etc.)

It would be a very precious for me if You show me the way where I can
find any other information about data types or compatibility problems in
radiology.

I guarantee that I'm not going to use any of Your help, documents and
otherinformations in a commercial way - it's is only for purposes of my M.A.
thesis, only for scientific reaserching and analysis.

thanks
darod

Can you give examples of non-DICOM devices?
Are they still being manufactured?
