Author Magnetic viewing film?

I have had a Hakim valve installed for treatment of normal pressure
hydrocephalus. So far, I have had two x-rays taken to verify the valve
setting.

Is it possible to devise a system using magnetic viewing film to determine
the valve setting without using ionizing radiation or other expensive
imaging? Has magnetic viewing film ever been used for medical imaging?

MRI Scan - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

I know about MRI. That was used to examine my head in the first place. I am
asking about INEXPENSIVE techniques for view an implant that contains
magnetic components. A Hakim valve is one of them and is close to the
surface just under the skin.

If the valve, in question, was designed with this in mind, I can think of
several 9possibly novel) low-tech, safe and non-intrusive methods to read a
valve's setting.

I majored in electronic metrology and it would appear to me to be a
relatively straight-forward design proposition, from the instrumentation
perspective. . None of them would involve internal batteries, X-Rays,
Magnetic viewing film or indeed imaging at all. I dare say there may be
issues in valve design & reliability that would limit the options though. I
guess X-Rays provides a simple cheap, reliable method - on a standard risk
assessment?

Maybe you should take this up directly with the manufacturers?

The valve can be changed by an MRI and after an MRI, it needs to
be checked with an x-ray.

Therefore, your idea won't work.

This in regard to a Hakim valve.

The process I am describing does NOT ivolve MRI imaging. The valve has four
tiny magnets for setting it externally with a programming device. The
viewing film looks something line a sheet of liquid crystal material that
shows gradients in the magnetic field. I is like iron filings in a sheet.
