Author Incontinence for life post TURP or PVP??

Hello all

I'm still receiving Hormone (ADT) treatment for Prostate Cancer, plus
have completed External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT) and High Dose
Rate Brachytherapy (HDRB.)
Going into the treatment regime, I also already had BPH for the last 18
yrs. I had a TURP for this 16 yrs ago.

My Prostate volume was 72cc going into the Treatment program and the
Hormone treatment had only shrunk it to 65cc.

I've just been advised I possibly cannot have a TURP or PVP Laser
Surgery
to ease my poor Urinary performance post-HDRB in July 05, due to Scar
Tissue, as it may
cause me to be incontinent for the rest of my miserable life!

I'm currently on Flomax and it's working about 60% average.

I'm getting a 2nd opinion within a few wks.

Any other members of this group had similar circumstances?

-Regards AV

Arch...my heart is with you. How is your cancer treatment going or is it
too early to tell. May I ask who said a TURP or PVP might make you
incontinent for the rest of your life and what was there logic (e.g.
radiation damage to your nerves/muscles, etc). Was it a uro or a
radiologist, or both, and who are you getting the second opinion from (I
assume a uro). Sorry, I don't have similar circumstances, but I know what
its like to live in misery, and I wish you the best...Pete

My cancer treatment program is almost over. I'll know how good that
will be when the hormones wear off mid 2006.
It was mainly the HDRB radiation that inflamed my already large
prostate.
A professor of Urology in Sydney who does greenlight PVPs advised
against ANY surgery.
I'm seeing a Perth Urologist who will make a finding after another
Cystoscopy, Dec 07. He would only do a TURP if the scar tissue was not
too severe, otherwise he'll do nothing.
The Radiation Oncologists who administered my program did mention I may
have problems.
I wore a Foley catheter for almost 4 wks post HDRB...
So we'll wait and see

First and foremost, my usual Nick is Clarence Crow, but when I posted
this, my ISP's news server was down and I was obliged to post via
Groups.Google under my Nick there (archvillain.)

Now I have to wait till nearly the end of January, 2006 for my next
Cystoscopy as the Urology Department at my Clinic is closing for
"Refurbishments" next week till mid Jan, 2006.
In the interim. I've been coldly advised by the Receptionist to
self-catheterise if the partial blockage gets worse!!

I'm really PISSED (or full of it)!!
