post laser bowel problems

| Is IBS kind of a normal thing after laser? I am in month 7 and almost from
the beginning of the recovery, I have had this urge to have a bowel
movement all day long. It is very frustrating! Any similar experiences?
Levsin has helped some but I don't want to be dependent on it.

| OK. Here goes. I had a regular TURP a little over 4 months ago. My
recovery from the TURP was fine. But immediately after the surgery my IBS
flared up. It is just starting to settle down. That frequent urge to have
a bowel movement is part of the IBS, at least for me. Also, I have had to
live with excessive gas or flatulence.
Everyone is different, so what works for me may not work for you, but this
is what works for me:
Reduce fat intake. Increase water soluble fiber (like Citrucel).
Eat a lot of little meals instead of three big ones. Use French Bread (no
fat) as a staple.
My doctor gave me some Bentyl to help control the cramping. I'm not sure if
it helps or not, but I still take it.
Good luck.

I have IBS and that isn't a feature of it for me. I often have trouble
crapping and the only way I can is a massive dose of coffee or a large
caffeine drink of some time. This is something they warn you away from but
it is well known in aged care homes that if you want someone to do a
movement, give them a strong coffee/tea and it works for me.
I get pain in the gut feeling really bad etc but I never have a feeling as
if I have a crap to do all day long.

Excessive gas - yes! The good thing for me is that my work involves driving
from spot to spot to put out "fires". I work in computer repair etc. You can
get a lot done while driving on your own!
I had thought of moving to Rotorua NZ where the thermal pools make the whole
town smell like someone farted. I got away with a lot in that town when I
visited it!

| This is a side effect of any surgery involving that area of the body. The
Bladder, Prostate and Rectum share a synergy of nerves. Depending on your
particular anatomy, there is a chance of various senses of post-surgical
urgency to develop.

Did you have a course of anti biotic after the procedure? There is a type of
anti biotic induced IBS. I had it for months after triple therapy for
Helicobacter Pylori.

| I don't know if I am imagining things, nor if what I experienced is anything
close to what you have, but I have found that following my surgery, if I eat
meats, I have much discomfort, feeling both bloated and as though I need to
the can often. I now ensure about an 70:30 ratio of veggies to meats, even
if eating just chicken as the meat. This has helped me greatly, but still
have some bad days. In my previous life as a vegan, I experienced no
problems whatsoever including completely eradicating a serious case of acid
reflux. I am slowly working up the nerve to go back to 100% vegan meals.
Here's wishing you the very best of luck.
