Shortly after my PVP [11/10/04], I set out to post my personal post PVP
experiences, in the hope, someone might benefit.

This post concerns a subject not readily found in the archives. Either,
it's a subject not easily discussed - or, I'm atypical. Sexual performance
anomalies.

Three weeks after PVP [Day 24], I thought it time to road-test sexual
functionality. Not having a wife or 'girlfriend' [read: a vagina to play
with], I employed the old-fashioned hand method. Good thing too. Had I a
vagina to road-test with, I would have peed into it. Surprise.

After the first few strokes, I involuntarily squirted urine. Had absolutely
no way to prevent this event. Tried a few more times - more squirting -
we're talking real squirts, two - three feet. Thus ended my road-test. What
little erection I might have had, disappeared. I finally discovered if I
emptied my bladder, no problem - no urine to squirt. Then, my only problem
was maintaining an erection long enough to reach an orgasm. Wasn't to be at
week 3 1/2.

Now, we segue into my post PVP erections. I found getting an erection a far
cry from maintaining an erection. I could wake up with the usual 3/4
erection. Looking at a sexually provocative picture [read: naked girl or
more] would produce the desired results. However, maintaining the sucker
was another story.

Brief pre-PVP background: other than the typical inability to pee good,
sexual functionality, I rated as excellent. Averaged two orgasms per week.
Could just have easily managed seven, had the right opportunity existed.
Could easily maintain a durable erection. All was well. Could even hang a
towel on it. The towel bit came about as a result of Kegel exercises. I was
a firm believer in maintaining the apparatus. Still am.

Instead of hanging a towel on it, hanging a washrag for a few seconds was
about it. My immediate reaction was to call the doc. Then, common sense
sorta prevailed. 'Back to my drawing board' - again.

Logically, 'the less invasive' PVP was, and is, invasive. It traumatized
and/or injured all the contributory equipment, i.e., urethra, sphincter,
pubococcygeal muscles [pelvic floor muscles] - all the equipment used in the
erectile/sexual climax process. Especially the pubococcygeal muscles. I
think my pubococcygeal muscles and whatever additional muscles that may
exist in the sphincter area - took a real hit.

Kegels: The invention of Dr. Arnold Kegel, a gynecologist, some fifty years
ago. 'Kegels' are exercises for the pubococcygeus muscle (pronounced
pew-bo-kak-se-gee'-us) [aka: PC muscle]. The PC muscle is a group of muscles
that run from the pubic bone in front to the tail bone in the back. The PC
muscle surrounds your anus and prostate. You use the PC muscle every time
you stop the flow of urine from your bladder. It is also the muscle that
contracts when you ejaculate. Though originally designed for women, Kegels
work equally well for men.

My Rx is Kegels, time, Kegels and more time - and more Kegels. We will pause
this post here. This post will resume AFTER I've spent maybe a month doing
Kegels. Hopefully, by then Kegels and time will have restored my
'apparatus.' You know, if this had been rotator cuff surgery, right out of
the gate, the doc hands you a prescription for extended physical therapy.
Well, I think Kegel physical therapy is equally warranted after PVP. Yet,
no one mentions this.

Turned out to be a short pause - I'd planned not to attempt another
'road-test' to orgasm until at least another two weeks - allowing time and
Kegels to work their work - but, sometimes the best laid plans of mice and
men go astray. On Day 26, I tried again - this time, with an empty bladder.
Finding it difficult to gain and maintain an erection, I resorted to viewing
a portion of an erotic video showing a very shapely 20-year old girl
pleasuring herself with a large 'realistic type' dildo.

Within a minute or less, I had a full [pre-PVP] type erection. Taking things
in hand, a climax followed in about another minute. Interesting to say the
least. First, it was a combo of light pain and regular orgasm. Second, a
new sensation: Kinda like a 'void' feeling. I was telling myself this is
'retro' - must be, because doc said he 'did a lot of work at the bladder
neck.' However, in about another second after the 'void' feeling, three to
four globules of thick sperm came out. I happily had to wipe up the 'mess'
off the floor. The sperm surprised me - but I can live with it.

I was left with very sensitized glans. So sensitized, I determined to no
try that again for a couple more weeks. Penis {urethra} needed more time to
heal. Again, 'mice and men' prevailed. Two days later [Day 28], during a
Kegel exercise session, it got hard. I switched from Kegeling to stroking.
Another orgasm. Less intense than before. Same void feeling and same
emission of thick sperm a second or two later. Again, less sperm than
before. Penis sensitized again. Enough! I really will put all this on the
back-burner and let things heal. I did prove that the equipment worked.

This in now Day 31. No more road-testing. Just doing a lot of Kegels. I
will include two URLs for Kegel information. Should any reader like a copy
of my Kegel exercise sheet, e-mail me directly and I will send a copy in
either WordPefect of Word format. [I put together a collection of Kegel
exercises I gleaned from an extensive Google search]

Thanks for sharing your "real experience" after PVP. I wish more men
who have had PVPs would be so candid. It would help those of us who may
have to face that decision sometime in the future.

I would be interested in knowing how old you are, what your symptoms
were before embarking on PVP, and what other options you have pursued up
to this time to deal with bph? Thanks. chockman@canby.com

I'm 67. My symptoms were pencil-lead urine stream at best. When I'd get up
at night, I'd sit down to pee [seemed to relax the muscles and make peeing
easier. Anytime I would have to 'wait' for a restroom facility, the
'waiting' literally locked up my sphincter - and made it very difficult to
start the pee stream. Options I pursued: a brew of Saw Palmetto, Beta
Sitosterol, Pygeum and Nettles. For the full story, read my first post on
11/24/04 "PVP/Dr Laub/2-weeks post.

What a combination of information, honesty, and humor! Thanks. Jim W.
