Indigo Laser Treatment or PVP?
|
|
|
| I recently went to the Hattiesburg Clinic Urology Dept(Hattiesburg,
Mississippi) and saw Dr. Randolph Ross. He suggested the Indigo Laser
Treatment. He did say that retro-ejaculation is still a strong
possibility with this non-invasive surgery. I want to know what kind
of percentage or the odds of that occurring to me? I am a 50 year old
male and my wife (me included) is not thrilled that I may no longer be
able to ejaculate normally as I do now. I have NO serious sexual
problems at this time but have advanced BPH, medication is not
working. I would like to know what is the nationwide percentage of
cases that do have retro-ejaculation compared to those that don't with
both PVP and Indigo Laser.
I have read that PVP may be a better course than Indigo Laser.
Also, do you have any information on the Hattiesburg Clinic and Dr.
Randolph Ross or where I can find out information on their success
rate?
Thank you!

| Take it from someone who has been there- retrograde ejaculation is
nothing to be concerned about except if you want more children. The
feelings are the same!

| Hmmm. Not in my case. I think retro is kinda like eating a meal without
adding salt when cooking.....I guess one can get used to food without salt,
but it is not as enjoyable. Nonetheless, I do agree that it is nothing to
be "concerned" about, especially if fathering days are history.
Besides, if one can't reduce the size of a prostate with meds, then there is
likely no recourse except one of the operations. Even with meds there is
probability of retro or even loss of libido, depending on the meds....in my
non-medical opinion. All I can say is, wishing you the best of
outcomes...no pun intended.

| Your doctor is most likely trained in the use of the indigo laser and
not pvp.
You need to determine what's best for you, not what's best for the
doctor. I would seek another opinion from a doctor who is experienced
in a multitude of treatment options. Personally, I would avoid the
indigo. jmo.

| I have had BPH for years. Getting tired of getting out of bed every two hours.
Recently saw piece on PVP from Cornell U. Is it the miracle that I am looking
for. My Urologist is very conservative. Held me off Laser because of horrow
stories of burned out Colons.
Anyone out there have this new procedure????

| I had it 15 months ago. I'm glad I did. My prostate was very large. One
URO who did PVPs told me that my prostate was the biggest that he ever saw
in thirty years of practice. It took a lot of research on my part, but with
the help of the people on this news group I was directed to Dr. Lin in
Florida. Dr Lin has dealt with large prostates and did mine. I found that
the operation and the recovery was endurable. It's not a walk in the park
like some have indicated. There was painful burning urination for weeks
after the operation. I did have "retro" for a long time but this is not a
big deal and it seems to be returning to normal. At 65 years of age I can
now pee like a young man, sleep thru the night, and travel with out worry
about frequent need for a bath room.
I strongly urge you to find a highly recommended and experienced URO for the
PVP. If one is not near where you live, travel to where one is.
