I had my TURP Sept.28 after being totally blocked, unable to urinate since
July 10. I was catherised the first 2 weeks and then went to self
catherization for the duration. We tried meds(HYTRIN) to hopefully relax the
prostate to allow flow but meds did not work. The surgery went well but I
suffered from TURP syndrome getting nausia a couple times during the night
right after surgery, and feeling peekish the next day. Went home the next
morning after spending the night at the hospital, and with a cathetar in
place with instructions to keep it in untill Monday. The color started out
pinkish but by Thursday morning was turning to normal colors. The pain was
minimal if any, more like a nagging ache in the background down under. Kind
of like you might feel with a bladder/urine infection.
Drinking plenty of water evryday to keep it flushing out.
On Monday,Oct.4 ,removed the cath and within a couple hours everything was
working. The first time urinating was slow at first and and as I was
finishing I contracted a little to get the last drop out (you know as most
people do, you kind of pull up with your bladder neck mucles?) and wow a
piece of something went shooting out into the toilet with great pressure and
the flow was on! Being the scientist I am (heehee) I retrieved the
projectile from the toilet to see. It appeared to be a piece of tissue
(prostate) probably slightly to big to clear through the cathetar all week.
After that the flow has been good, I feel like I am emptying
completely,etc.(flow like a 12 year old!! )
However ,Tuesday, reddish drips at onset followed by good flow with pinkish
color, is what I am experiencing, clearing slightly today!!

Any comments? Please post with your experience with TURP and what I might
expect for the next weeks.
I see the Doc. tommorrow morning for post-op follow-up etc.

Thanks ,
Michael O'Brien
