Bladder retention and TUNA
|
|
|
| About a year ago I had a TUNA procedure to solve the flow/frequency
problem. It was successful and all is working. The other problem,
both before the procedure was bladder retention. Somewhere in the
area of 400+ml. With this retention, I seem to have ongoing infections.
Antibiotics solve the problem for a while, then the bacteria reappear.
The Uro would like to another cycstoscopy to take a look inside, but
has suggested that TURP may be the next option.
My question is: will any procedure on the prostate help with the
retention problem ? I have no discomfort, problems, etc....just the
darn reoccuring infection.
Any/all comments would really be appreciated !
(I am 66, in otherwise good health, and still pee like a racehorse)
TIA

| You are indeed the envy of this group!!
But I am puzzled. If you have no problems taking a whiz, then your bladder
retention is likely due to previously having strained your bladder. But
after your operation and once the obstruction is removed it should
eventually return to normal, shouldn't it? I am also puzzled by the
suggestion to have a TURP if you "pee like a racehorse". TURP, TUNA, and
PVP are intended to remove an obstruction to permit one to achieve the
results you seem to enjoy. What purpose does TUNA serve if you don't have
an obstruction? As for the Cystoscopy, I'd say "yes", since your doctor
may be able to see something that may help solve your problem. Last point:
I'd offer that if you have no problem urinating, then I would intensify my
intake of liquids to go much more often to help wash out infections. I
personally believe that it is not how much is retained but how long one
retains it. (But remember, I am not a doctor.) Best of luck to you!
