Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Incorporated (a brokerage/investment firm ?)
has issued a 40 page investment analysis of Laserscope LSCP. The analysis
includes an excellent review of BPH and treatment alternatives. The link:

http://www.stifel.com/stifelresearc...04%20Report.pdf

For those who don't want to download 40 pages, here are some interesting
quotes from the report.....

start of quotes.......

"GreenLight PVP Is Poised to Replace TURP as the Gold Standard BPH Therapy.
The current "gold standard" surgical therapy for treating
severe benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is transurethral resection of the
prostate (TURP), which is an effective but invasive procedure that
carries high morbidity and complication rates. LSCP's GreenLight PVP
procedure is a minimally invasive, laser-based BPH procedure that
provides equivalent, if not better, clinical outcomes than TURP, with
virtually none of the associated side effects or complications. We believe
LSCP's GreenLight PVP procedure is well-positioned to replace TURP as the
gold standard treatment for severe BPH."

"Laserscope has set its sights on becoming the new gold standard in surgical
BPH therapy, a title which currently belongs to a procedure known as
transurethral resection of the prostate, or TURP. The TURP procedure, which
has been performed by urologists for more than 30 years, is a highly proven
and effective procedure in terms of reducing symptom scores and increasing
urinary flow rates. However, despite its clinical effectiveness, this
procedure is associated with a number of shortcomings, including high
morbidity and complication rates. Additionally, the TURP procedure is
difficult to master, and requires a hospital stay of 2 to 5 days and
recovery period of 4 to 6 weeks. In contrast, LSCP's PVP is a minimally
invasive, endoscopic procedure that produces immediate and long-lasting
symptomatic relief, is easy to learn, has quick recovery times, is virtually
bloodless, and leaves patients highly satisfied with their choice of
therapy. In addition to the clinical benefits produced by the procedure, PVP
is also a cost effective alternative to TURP, as its low complication and
morbidity rates lead to faster patient recovery and fewer return visits to
the hospital. These improvements provide significant cost savings to the
patient, the hospital, employers, and public and private insurers. While a
number of minimally invasive transurethral thermal-based therapies for BPH
have gained popularity in the market over the past couple of years,
Laserscope's PVP therapy is not directly competitive with these devices, at
least in the near-term."

"GreenLight PV's Superior Clinical Results are Unmatched by Competing
Technologies
Clinical data supporting the safety, efficacy and cost effectiveness of the
GreenLight PVP procedure has been nothing short of impressive, with outcome
studies showing symptom score, maximum flow rate, and post-void residual
improvements that are superior to any minimally invasive therapy. A series
of studies conducted by several leading American institutions were recently
presented in four presentations at the 2004 American Urological Association
(AUA) annual meeting, which was held during May. In each of these
presentations, the safety and efficacy data compiled by each investigator
provided an overwhelming endorsement for the PVP procedure. Additionally, a
study presented by Case Western and John's Hopkins university also provided
a convincing argument for the cost effectiveness of the PVP procedure. In
our opinion, the strong clinical results associated with the PVP procedure
will play a key role in driving market adoption of the GreenLight PV laser
system, as we believe it will be difficult for physicians to ignore the
procedure's superior clinical profile. Additionally, patients are becoming
significantly more educated about specific treatment alternatives as the
internet provides a virtual library of clinical data for various BPH
procedures. Given PVP's excellent clinical outcomes, high satisfaction
rates, and proven durability, we believe that this procedure will prove to
be an extremely attractive option to prospective patients (we provide
details from several clinical studies of the PVP procedure later in this
report)."

"In addition to enjoying a wealth of favorable clinical data, the GreenLight
PV has also received accolades from outside the medical community. During
July 2004,
Frost and Sullivan, a prestigious global consulting organization, honored
the GreenLight PVP treatment with its 2004 Technology Innovation award,
which it
bestows upon companies that exhibit technical superiority within its
industry. This award, which resulted from a study entitled "The U.S. Medical
Lasers Market", recognized the GreenLight PVP as a safe and effective
procedure that is capable of changing the way BPH is treated. The Technology
Innovation award further acknowledges LSCP for its ability to design and
successfully launch new technologies that make significant performance
contributions to its industry. "

"We estimate that only 700 of the approximately 10,000 practicing urologists
in the United States have been trained to use the GreenLight PV laser and
that just over 500 have fully incorporated the procedure into their
respective practices. LSCP currently has 270 GreenLight PV laser systems
placed with accounts on a worldwide basis, giving the Company ample room for
expansion in this market. We further believe that the recently improved
Medicare reimbursement along with a wealth of positive, long-term clinical
data will enable LSCP to attract more urologists to its technology during
the remainder of 2004 and throughout 2005. "

end of quotes

Yes, I am pro LSCP and their PVP because I've had one and enjoy its
benefits. I'm also sure there are posters here who will poopoo this
information and question the author's motives.
