Well, until you drop a dime on that article (the bastards!) we'll have to
think a bit for ourownselves.

Considering the meaning of erythrocytosis, the effects of phlebotomy on that
condition ought to be self-evident. Ie: You have a condition that is expressed
as an abnormal proliferation of blood cells, which in turn presents a set of
clinically evident symptoms, all of which can apparently be reversed by
drawing off blood at some rate which presumably exceeds the rate of
erythrocyte production. Duh.

What isn't obvious is how any of that is specifically related to chronic HCV,
but if I had to hazard a guess, bone marrow is affected by the chronically
over-active immune system, and adding heavy smoking to that (heavy meaning the
patient's O2SAT is seriously affected - like down in the low 90's% range or
worse) must drive the marrow into major overdrive to try to compensate for the
hypoxic state.

Now, what REALLY isn't clear is how one might try to draw a positive view on
the use of phlebotomy in *treating HCV* from the above. I mean, that's
*really* stretching it ;-)

Not .. that .. hard ..

Erythrocytosis / increased red blood cells .. is 'diagnosed' .. through
a LARGE .. window ..

The analogy I will use is marbles for red blood cells.

Normally they would like us to have around 11 red blood cells / marbles
..

They .. graciously .. allow us .. up to men / 18 red blood cells ..
women / 16 red blood cells / marbles.

So WHEN you are .. diagnosed WITH .. erythrocytosis .. we might think
'they' .. have .. graciously allowed us the .. 18 red blood cells /
marbles .. when in fact .. 13.5 red blood cells have been shown to have
increased .. death .. rate .. kidney disease.

So .. the fact you smoke .. isn't the death knell .. it is the FACT ..
they .. graciously allow us to HAVE red blood cells / marbles .. that
have been shown to kill us ..

With .. friends .. like .. 'them' ..

Sooooo .. since bloodletting has been shown to be .. "an effective
alternative to interferon / ribavarin .. " .. then one might consider
the FACT .. the bloodletting in hep C .. reversal of
clinical symptoms and laboratory parameters with therapeutic phlebotomy
... CLOSELY .. mimics the outcome of SMOKERS with hep C ..
reversal of
clinical symptoms and laboratory parameters with therapeutic phlebotomy
...

Geez .. even the same wording .. ;-)

So if one looks closer .. hep C is most likely found with ..
erythrocytosis .. 'across the board' .. what 'they' .. consider /
diagnose .. to BE .. minor .. therefore .. cost effectively .. not
'treatable' .. AT THIS TIME.

Maybe later when you .. are .. fkg .. near .. dead .. and your organs
... are beyond .. redemption ..

But .. hey .. I'm a cynical .. guy ..

Stop right there.

Please provide citations that back that statement up.
Otherwise there's no point in continuing as your entire posit is based on that
one statement...

<<snip>>
They suggest that chronic iron reduction is a good alternative
to interferon in treatment of CHC.
