The interactions of host-specific and microbial factors are responsible
for recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTI). The anatomical
properties of the female urogenital tract favor colonization by
uropathogens. Local factors such as glucose concentration of the urine,
stability of the lactobacilli population, the influence of estrogens,
the activity of Tamm-Horsfall protein or of defensins, and disturbance
of the systemic defense mechanisms dictate the course of an
infection. The most prominent uropathogen is E. coli. It expresses
various virulence factors including adhesions, toxins, iron uptake
systems, and a capsule. It is still unclear if there are virulence
factors characteristic for E. coli strains causing rUTI. The formation
of intracellular reservoirs by invasion of uroepithelial cells by E.
coli could be another, as yet little noticed cause for rUTI. Therefore,
in cases of rUTI the application of intracellularly active antibiotics
should be considered

| So, do you just spend your days searching for any little piece of
negative information that may or may not have anything to do with iron?
This piece here is completely worthless. It doesn't really even say
anything. It has no value at all. It's just a paragraph of
speculation with no real data to back it up. Then at the end it says,
"If you have a uninary tract infection, you should take antibiotics."
Well duh!
Jesus was not a hypocrite, therefore he was not a vegetarian.

So what is .. up .. with .. YOU .. max ..?
You seem to be acting now like I am supposed to point things out to you
... otherwise .. you'll .. 'comment' .. ?
In this case the 'speculation' BY these .. researchers .. mention the
ability of the ecoli to acquire .. iron ..
You don't seem to think THAT is .. 'enough' .. of .. 'circumstantial
evidence' .. for me to .. mention .. ?
You've had urinary tract infection .. lately .. have ya .. max .. ?
Heh .. heh ..
Who loves ya.

Nope. I don't care about opinion. I just want to see the facts.
> You've had urinary tract infection .. lately .. have ya .. max .. ?
Nope. I've never had a UTI.
Until you get that problem with your period key fixed, I don't think
I'll be replying to any more of your posts. they're just too annoying
to read.
Let's talk after you get a new keyboard... or new typing skills.

Is this the whole article? Is there a link to it? I have low iron
stores, normal circulating iron, and rUTI (renal, 3 years) with e. coli,
enterobactor aerogenes and k. pneumoniae and I've stumped the heads of
several departments.
(Yes, I'm aware of this poster's history but any information that might
possibly help get this cleared up is worth overlooking the source.)

???
You have seven months worth of iron and up .. no less ..
Your body stores seven months worth of iron and then the body begins to
downregulate the absorption of iron to just keep that seven months
worth 'topped up' ..
So 'low iron stores' .. means .. nothing ..
Means the doctor is .. ignorant to basic physiological .. FACTS ..
The infection in the body NEEDS iron to initially 'take' in the body
AND to run / proliferate in the body.
The research has shown the most efficient substance for biofilm
clearance is .. lactoferrin .. the human bodies FIRST 'line of defense'
...
It is devoid of iron .. floating .. in all the shiny mucus covered
areas of the body.
USUALLY devoid of iron .. BUT .. when the body is in a state of
ELEVATED iron .. the lactoferrin cannot do its' .. job ..
That is of sequestering the iron AWAY from the invader.
The key seems to be to lower the iron levels to the point the body can
NOW .. do its' .. job ..
That is the lactoferrin can NOW bind up / sequester the iron AWAY from
the invader.

A component of innate immunity prevents bacterial biofilm development.
Singh PK, Parsek MR, Greenberg EP, Welsh MJ

Antimicrobial factors form one arm of the innate immune system, which
protects
mucosal surfaces from bacterial infection. These factors can rapidly
kill
bacteria deposited on mucosal surfaces and prevent acute invasive
infections.
In many chronic infections, however, bacteria live in biofilms, which
are
distinct, matrix-encased communities specialized for surface
persistence. The
transition from a free-living, independent existence to a biofilm
lifestyle can
be devastating, because biofilms notoriously resist killing by host
defence
mechanisms and antibiotics. We hypothesized that the innate immune
system
possesses specific activity to protect against biofilm infections. Here
we show
that lactoferrin, a ubiquitous and abundant constituent of human
external
secretions, blocks biofilm development by the opportunistic pathogen
Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This occurs at lactoferrin concentrations below
those
that kill or prevent growth. By chelating iron, lactoferrin stimulates
twitching, a specialized form of surface motility, causing the bacteria
to
wander across the surface instead of forming cell clusters and
biofilms. These
findings reveal a specific anti-biofilm defence mechanism acting at a
critical
juncture in biofilm development, the time bacteria stop roaming as
individuals
and aggregate into durable communities.

It's not, it's about urinary tract infections. Wrong article, I think.
