Does temporary use of cortison influences inflammatory activities in kidneys?

| Hello,
I am not a medical expert. I like to know the extend to which the use
of cortison influences inflammatory activities in kidneys? That is, I
am particularly interested in how long (how many days/weeks) does it
take to measure an effect of cortison on blood and protein levels in
urin. And also how large should the dosage of cortison be to see a
significant difference? How long would cortison alter the levels of
blood and protein in urin after stopping cortison? Are there studies
about this topic (I am interested in some main points, I am prob. not
going to read papers)?
Let me be more specific, I am using urin dipsticks that measure
protein, blood, etc. Without the use of any drugs, the level of blood
shown on the dipstick is very high (5 out of 5). The level of protein
is quite low (1 out of 5). So the question is, what results would you
expect if cortison is taken. What if I would test the urin 3 days after
taking a dosage of 20mg/day? How would the results be 7 days after
taking a dosage of 20mg/day? How long do altered levels of blood and
protein last after stopping the medication?
Looking forward to find answers to these questions.
cheers, Constantin

First, you could be getting a trace reading of protein simply because of
the amount of blood in the urine, meaning there is not true proteinuria.
Second, a trace reading of protein is not likely to be treated and/or
repsond to corticosteroid treatment. In some disease processes with
heavy proteinuria, steroids are tried - usually with poor result in
adults. If the treatment were successful, a 'trace' reading of protein
would be a good outcome.
Finally, if the steroids are being given to treat the hematuria - well,
that makes more sense; I recently did the same thing for a cat with
cystitis. Steroids are anti-inflammatory. I am not familiar with their
use in humans with hematuria, but if it works for cats, whose urinary
systems are similar to ours, maybe it is used (I'm a kidney patient - my
bladder is fine, knock wood). Generally, the effect is felt within a day
or so of beginning treatment. Ask your doctor if your symptoms worry you.

Hello,
I suggest that you read the following book since it will help you to learn
some important info. about the kidneys and various kidney related
diseases. It's written for people not involved in the field of medicine so
it's easy to understand.
"COPING WITH KIDNEY DISEASE" by Mackenzie Walser, M.D.
