| Fellow sci. med. pathology members,
I am an independent consultant, and I have a client who could use input
from several pathologists. Please read below, and if you have an
interest in helping, please contact me off-list.
My client is seeking to gain a general understanding of operations in
the pathology laboratory, specifically as they relate to cytology,
histology and histotechnology. We are currently surveying laboratory
personnel at the technical and technologist level.
We feel it is crucial to also obtain input and opinions from
pathologists who read the slides.
We realize that pathologists have different preferences for their
degree of involvement in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory; we
also realize that pathologists have different levels of commitment to
the education and supervision of their laboratory personnel.
We are seeking individuals who would be willing to participate in one
15-minute telephone conversation regarding their opinions about their
laboratories, how they operate, what the lines of authority are for
recommending and purchasing new equipment, what the roles are for the
lab manager and histology supervisor, etc.
The ideal candidates for the interviews could come from academic
institutions, private hospitals, reference labs, etc. In fact, a
variety of laboratory settings would be preferred.
It has been our experience that the preferred candidates are those who:
(1) Take an active role in the operation of the laboratory;
(2) Take the time to work with and to help educate their laboratory
personnel;
(3) Care about the results and the people who produce the slides; and
(4) Participate actively in their societies at the national and state
levels.
Please feel free to circulate all or part of this message to your
colleagues who might not read or participate in sci.med.pathology.
We are seeking input until the end of April.
Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.
Sincerely,
Robert (Bob) Chiovetti, Ph.D.
