Author baby-like 4 hour alert cycles ?

Hi,

it's common knowledge that many over 70s have problems sleeping
through the night. Are the following symptoms common ?

I'm male 63 yo. and I remember decades ago, at work, an old
chappie, near retiring age: 63; used to doze off during the day.

I work from home on 'mental tasks' and just lie down listening
to the radio [speach/eg. BBC documentary], if I feel mentally dull.
This usually results in me falling asleep for an hour or two.

We know about the normal metabolic daily cycle, starting off with
the strong coffee and going on till the mid-afternoon lull ...etc.

But is it normal to have a 4 hour alert cycle which often needs
sleep to retore to mental capacity ?

It's almost as if some component like blood-sugar is depleting
and needs recharging. Blood test show that I'm not diabetic.
But the alert cycle is clearly related to the eating and flask of
sweetend tea cycles.

Because of an enlarged prostrate and consequent in ability to
[apparently] never empty the bladder, there is has been
automatically the inability to sleep 'right through'; for decades.

The ability to apparently have the same total weekly productively
albeit in 4 hour alert cycles, would preclude 'normal' employment.

What are the normally expected activety patterns throughout the
humans life ?

Thanks for any info.

== Chris Glur.
