| The sub-sequence of ALS (Accession No. O60296)below:
YQEEISSLLSQIVDLQHKLKEHVIEKEELKLHLQASKDAQR
appears to be the active portion of the ALS sequence that may be
causing the autoimmune disorder in amyotropic lateral sclerosis. Data
suggest that GABA-A receptor blockers might slow down or perhaps stop
ALS progression.
Above sequence in ALS (Accession No. gi|24418846|sp|O60296|AL2S3_HU)
shows structural similarity to a retrovirus envelope spike protein that
is mimicking GABA-A receptor. Data suggest ALS may be caused by
retrovirus or retrovirus-like infective agent or
genetically-transmitted retroposon. This is the first evidence of a
retrovirus spike protein associated with ALS to my knowledge.
