Hi Everyone:

My Mom was recently diagnosed with als, after about one year at age 78.
Which started out as a sore wrist and slowly progressed to lack of use of
the whole arm. Followed by loss of the ability to walk and then the other
arm. Now the inability to talk and chew and swallow as she bites her tongue
and mouth, as it must be like being at the dentist. Her breathing is
becoming shallow and the other day I held a Kleenex to her nose for her to
blow her nose and I saw the minimal strength. My Mom also appears at this
stage to be very sensitive to odors from cooking. My Mom has never smoked
and drank very minimally, always exercised and ate properly. I lost my
Cousin , my Aunt (my moms sister) and my Sister all with in about 4 months
earlier this year, which may also have possibly triggered this Disease we
think any way. My Mom was in the Hospital for about 9 days being assessed
and is home now, the Doc from the Hospital said she has from 3 to 6 weeks to
live.

We have all tried to come to grips with this and were told originally it
could possibly be a virus, by her GP. There is one thing that is a
possibility, and that is my Mom had the flu shot last Nov just before she
went to Oklahoma to visit her Sister. I heard recently on the Bush/Kerry
debate that Canada had contaminated vaccine last year! We have found out
there is around 40 cases on Vancouver Island , its is just the upper half,
which is from Duncan BC on up. So the total may be staggering for the rest
of the Province of B.C. for all I know.

If any one has any solutions or causes or comments, I would greatly
appreciate hearing from you.

Regards:

Rod S
