Our micro supervisor asked me a question today about the latest CAP survey
that stumped me. She said that several years ago someone changed our stool
culture procedure and it stated that Aeromonas spp is not cultured in our
lab. And because of that the last couple of surveys that had stool samples
were marked as "Aeromonas not tested in this lab".

Well, now we think we isolated an Aeromonas and the supervisor is concerned
about reporting it since all this time we said that we don't culture for it.

I find the whole question stupid - if you can isolate an organism and
identify it then report it. Why would we need a statement to not isolate
something that is very easily isolated on regular media? I'm wondering if
this is a result of someone over reading some CAP checklist question. I
would rather have it so that if you isolate a primary organism on a stool
media you had better be able to identify it.
