| What is the best time of day to have the test? Should calcium
supplements be stopped prior to the test? How about Fosamax? What are
your thoughts????
62 years old male. Lumbar Total T of -3.0 and Z -2.3, Left Hip Total T
of -2.9 and Z -1.3 Would appreaciate your comments. Thanking you in
advance for your assistance.

| They send me instructions. I don't think there is anything in the diet that
matters, but be sure to wear warm up pants and a shirt without metal. Women
cannot even wear an underwire bra even though the scan doesn't go up that
far. No jeans. However I have never been asked to remove my rings. I only
wear my engagement and wedding ring. If you wear a large ring, you might be
asked to remove it.
How do you know your scores if you have never had a test? Just curious.
Obviously you have had other tests to be on Fosamax.

| I've had one test already in June of 2005 and have been on Fosmax since
that time.
Thank you for the information.

| My appointment times are always after lunch around 2 pm.
The health form that I filled out the last time asked me if I had Celiac
disease, which I do. No diet pre-cautions before.
I have to get a test every 2 years as I am on Fosamax, once a week per
my MD.

My instruction sheet says:
avoid clothing w/ metal snaps, buttons, etc.
no calcium supplements on day of scan (it doesn't mention Fosamax)
no x-ray contrast studies 5 days before scan (I think probably because it
persists & can interfere with the scan).
My appointment is usually late morning, but that's for my convenience in
scheduling. I don't think they've ever given me any timing conditions. I
have the dxa the same appointment as my mammogram, which is obviously not a
concern for you -- but they can be done at the same time, it's not a problem
(other than getting the appointment so far ahead to get that convenience!).
You can & should ask them about any special restrictions or conditions when
you call to make the appointment. For anything! tests, surgery, scans,
whatever!
