A new report from the U.S. Surgeon General calls osteoporosis,
..thinning bones, a major health concern.

We drink milk because it contains the calcium we need for stronger
bones.

We also find calcium in dark, leafy green vegetables and many of us
take calcium supplements to make sure we get enough.

But a new study warns that something's missing and that is vitamin D
to make sure your body retains and uses the calcium.

"I think women have gotten the message about calcium better than
they've gotten the message about vitamin D, but calcium and vitamin D
go hand in hand and you need enough of each for optimal bone health;
somehow vitamin D has been a little bit neglected," says Dr. Ethel
Siris, a study investigator.

As we get older, we lose the ability to absorb vitamin D from
sunshine. Your doctor may recommend supplements.

Don't pass up the chance to get tested for thinning bones. The exam
van from Therapy and Health Care Products of Girard has been offering
the service.

Forum Health performs free tests every second Thursday of the month at
its Austintown Medical Park.

Remember, calcium without vitamin D will do little for your bones. You
need the complete package.
