I fell over backwards trying to stand up on Wednesday and landed on the
kitchen floor. I lost my balance and ambulance had to come to get me up
as I was in such pain, could not move myself. I was taken to the ER for
xrays, no fractures. Back went into a Spasm when I fell.

I seem to have lose my balance at times since Osteo was diagnosed.
I use the treadmill mostly everyday for 1/2 hour and it has the incline
on it too.

Ageing? or Osteo?

Not Osteo. Depending on your physical condition, you might want to
consider either seeing a Physical Therapist to get exercises to help you
with your balance (depending on your state, you may need to have your
doctor prescribe this) or starting some kind of physical activity that will
help you regain your sense of balance (yoga, tai chi, etc.).

Sorry to be rude, but how old are you? Other than the treadmill, what kinds
of physical activity do you do?

I am 66 and I think I am active 3 seasons of the year working in the
garden, heavy grocery shopping, walking for 1/2 hour everyday, that
includes some small hills.
The days I cannot get outside I use my treadmill.

I guess it has to do with age. I was over at Mayo Clinic site for
seniors, they have a lot of things that I can do to avoid these falls.

Is there any chance that you have had a mini-stroke otherwise known as a
TIA? My mother's MRI showed that she'd been having multiple TIA's over the
years without even knowing it. They were so small that she didn't notice it
as it was very transient. However, now at age 77, the cumulative damage is
undeniable. One of the first symptoms she had was loss of balance. PT helped
her initially regain her center. Falls for no reason should not be ignored.
I had 6 falls in one year when I was in my 40's. I wrote it off as
clumsiness when in fact, it was the beginning of Multiple Sclerosis. I
suggest you discuss this with your doctor and ask for a referral to a
neurologist if he is unable to address your loss of balance.

One other place to look is at the meds you are taking. Check the side
effects and see if any of them could or in combination be causing your loss
of balance. Good luck!

Falls are not a necessary part of aging!

My mother is 84 and has never had a fall & has no balance problems. She
continues to ride her bicycle as long as the weather is "clement", plus
walking, doing housework, etc.--less housework now, though, since she moved
to a retirement home -- but she didn't move because she *had* to, she moved
while she still had some choice in the matter!

Are the Mayo things balance exercises?

The only drug I take is Fosamax for Osteoporosis.

I did not feel good for 2 days after this fall.
I know falls cause a trauma to the body.

Mayo clinic gives info on how to adapt. For Seniors, such as sitting
down, if possible while doing a task.
When getting into a car back into your seat, Getting out of bed- roll to
your side and push your body up and sit before standing.
