hepatitis and Lamisil question
|
|
|
| Hello group,
I am currently taking Lamisil for a toe nail fungal infection. I have some
health concerns due to the fact that i have had alcohol induced hepititis in
the past.(about 7 years ago.) I have been on the lamisil for one week. Two
or three days after i started on the Lamisil my urine darkened. Now it is
normal in color. Also i noticed, this morning when i woke up, i had a mild
dull pain in my upper right abdomen area. But i did not have any twitching
or spasms like i did when i had the hepititis.
Is this cause for concern? I am taking a blood test in about 2 or 3 days.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok, don't freak out, but Lamisil terbinafine hydrochloride can cause liver
issues. Your symptoms certainly correspond to at least one US FDA advisory.
From the Product Datasheet at
http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/Profs/Da.../Lamisiltab.htm
"Special warnings and special precautions for use
Lamisil is not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease.
Before prescribing Lamisil tablets, pre-existing liver disease should be
assessed. Hepatotoxicity may occur in patients with and without pre-existing
liver disease. Patients prescribed Lamisil tablets should be warned to report
immediately any symptoms of unexplained persistent nausea, anorexia, fatigue,
vomiting, right upper abdominal pain, or jaundice, dark urine or pale stools.
Patients with these symptoms should discontinue taking oral terbinafine and
the patient's liver function should be immediately evaluated."
Bottom line:
If you haven't yet, call your doctor's NP FIRST THING IN THE MORNING!

Best of luck - hopefully your issues were self-limiting.

| I went to the doctor. The urine test was normal. blood test pending. He
said stop taking the lamisil due to my past incident of enlarged liver 7
years ago. Not worth the risk he said. Live with the toe nail fungus many
others do. Oh well, I might try and remove the toe nails myself? I heard
they can be softened with vasoline. Then the area can be treated with over
the counter athletes foot medicine. Anyone know of a way i can get rid of
this toe nail fungus?
