Hi all! Reading many posts in this group I have seen discussions about
the ammonia level in the blood due to the liver not doing its job,
etc.. For the past year I have on/off had frequent bouts of smelling
ammonia in my nostrils when I breathe out -- no rhyme or reason as to
when it occurs, but I do intake a big amount of vegetable protein
(mainly rice protein powder).

I've searched online and found a handful of other people with similar
issues with ammonia, but no real answer given to any as to what would
trigger it, except that in kidney disease it seems to present itself as
a smell of ammonia in your breath, but I have never had that.

I am curious if there could be a link between the liver not breaking
down the ammonia properly and the smell of it when I breathe out?!

My last blood test showed a slighly elevated AST/ALT (67/76). All other
liver levels were in range.

Thanks,

dorothy
