With the current shortage of flu vaccine it looks like I won't be
getting a flu shot this year. The good news is that I'm not in a high
risk group. The bad news is that I'm not immunde from the flu. I was
hoping that somebody could give me some ideas for lowering the risk of
contacting the flu, despite the fact that I won't be getting the
vaccine. And if I would get the flu despite the best precautions, what
can I do to lessen it's severity.

Thanks!

Hand washing is the #1 most effective means of preventing the spread of
disease.
Maintaining a proper diet and avoiding extended closed-space exposure to
other people also helps. Commonly, influenza viruses enter the body
through the nose. Avoid bare skin contact with _publicly accessible_
fomites.
Don't know what a fomite is? Then Google it. By your headers I can see
you're already close to it hehe.

Amen, brother. This can't be repeated enough.

Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands and
keep them out of your face.
