| The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the CDC Foundati=
on announce the 2005 Price Fellowships for HIV Prevention program. The Pr=
ice Fellowships program offers the opportunity to three individuals from =
community-based and/or non-governmental organizations (CBO/NGOs), committ=
ed to preventing HIV infection, to work closely for one month with health=
professionals at CDC. =20
Recognizing the vital contributions of CBOs/NGOs and their role as partne=
rs in a national HIV/AIDS prevention strategy, the Price Fellowship for H=
IV Prevention is designed to:
(1) provide CDC with expertise and different perspectives about the=
prevention activities, organizational structure and capacity, and experi=
ences of CBOs/NGOs;
(2) provide three CBO/NGO representatives an opportunity to;=20
a) complete a self-directed project relevant to a specified a=
rea of HIV prevention
b) learn more about HIV prevention at the national level;=20
(3) facilitate an exchange about important HIV/AIDS prevention issu=
es between three CBO representatives and CDC personnel, state and local h=
ealth department representatives, and other CBO leaders in the United Sta=
tes.
Individuals meeting the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
=B7 Paid employee currently working for a community-based organizati=
on, a not-for-profit organization, or a non-governmental organization in =
the United States and its territories. =20
=B7 A minimum of two years experience working in HIV prevention and =
an understanding of HIV/AIDS prevention at the local, state, and national=
level. Volunteers are not currently eligible for the Price Fellowship.
=B7 The ability to articulate community concerns and have the confid=
ence to voice such concerns in a constructive manner to CDC staff. Appli=
cants should also be interested in developing better working relationship=
s with governmental agencies, and have the ambition and interest to pursu=
e the Fellowship objectives as well as personal objectives related to thi=
s opportunity. If an applicant is selected for the Fellowship and should=
change employment before the Fellowship begins, their new employer must =
support their participation in the Fellowship. =20
=B7 Persons working for an international CBO/NGO are currently not e=
ligible to apply for this Fellowship. =20
The individuals selected as Price Fellows spend four weeks (August 8-Sept=
ember 2, 2005) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in Atla=
nta, working with CDC staff. Each Fellow is assigned a mentor to assist =
in guiding their prevention project.=20
