| how exactly DO you brew the stuff, assuming you have the ingredients? I
tried making a tea with ingredients from maya ethnobotanicals, but it
had no effect.

Soak the Banisteriopsis caapi overnight, break/smash to thin strips,
Boil/simmer with plenty of water (including the soaking water)
for at about 4 hours, you can include the admixture leaves with
it or make a tea from them seperately, when you make it separety, you
only need to simmer those for 20-30 minutes. Acidification of the
water is not needed, if you want to acidify it anyway, best use
some vinegar, which will evaporate with the water, instead of getting
concentrated like lemon juice or vitamine-c.
After making the tea(s), remove the plant materials and concentrate
the liquid, so that 1 dose is 30-60 ml.
Starting dose about 50 g B. caapi with 30 g chacruna (Psychotria viridis)
or 15 g chacropanga (Diplopterys cabrerana). If you are not noticing much
1 hour after taking the first dose, take a second cup.
Eating something fatty (some nuts for example) will often activate
the experience, by causing the gall bladder to release its contents.
Keep ceremonial attention on the ayahuasca while you are brewing it
and be carefull in the last stage of concentration that it doesn't get
too hot and caramelizes and/or burns.
Prepare yourself by not eating solid food 4-6 hours before ingesting
the ayahuasca, smudge the ayahuasca with sage and/or tobacco smoke,
and try to become conscious of what you are asking it, perhaps expressing
this in a prayer.
