Dear folks,

Need to rant a little. (partially cause the weakness and pain in my
right arm are increasing, partially causee I am stunned at what I
see.)

Iraq is still a mess and they are claiming we are winning?

I am reading "Shake hands with the devil", by Romeo D'Allaire (sp?)
Kofi Annan and the UN are directly responsible for allowing 600,000
people to be hacked to death.

Speaking of genocide

Cambodia
Bosnia
Somalia
Rwanda
Darfur, Sudan

All run by the UN geocide and "ethnic cleansing" occurred, the UN's
inaction allowed the killing to continue.

The Marsh Arabs in the Shaat al Arab water way near Basra
Kosovo

These are examples of genocide that have been stopped
oddly the source of all that is corrupt in the world stopped genocide
the US.

In both cases the Media gets it wrong or (in Fox News case, out and
out tells untruths)

PS I have heard that there are problems with suicidal impulses with
Neurontonin. I hope that they don't allow tort lawyer generated
hysteria to cause this fine drug from being pulled from the market.

Personally, I am still trying to figure out why the current head of the U.N.
(excuse the upcoming spelling as I don't know it is it right) Kofi Anan is
silent on the racial abuses of Robert Mugabe.

Why is it OK for a black man to be in charge of a nation and doing racist
things?

Not to condone reverse racism by any means, but perhaps it's because
some formerly exploited or enslaved peoples may want not only relief,
but restitution, or revenge; balancing the scales so to speak.

Not pretty, but very human, the matter is not only between black and
white. For example the Hutu and Tutsi or the conflicts of European
ruling dynasties.

Of course, most times the scales aren't balanced, just tilted to the
other side for a while. Then the new downsiders begin to want to balance
things out again.

And the beat goes on.

That is certainly true. Robert Mugabe demonstrates that is what he wants
with every ruling he makes.

It doesn't answer the question as to why Kofi Anan seems silent on Mugabe's
obviously racist policies but comes out against any nation doing things he
considers racist elsewhere. I thought the U.N. was supposed to be fair and
impartial? If so, why is he there at all?

I think the operative word is "supposed." U.N. pronouncements say more
like: "The check's in the mail." or "Of course I'll respect you in the
morning." than anything effectual.

As to why Kofi Anan himself seems silent about one nation's actions
while condemning others', It seems hypocritical, but then the whole U.N.
is a just another League of Nations in my estimation. What Anan says or
decides has no more force than what you or I decide, on the grand scale.
His hypocrisy is irrelevant except to expose the real power of the U.N.
(i.e. none.)

He will pick and choose whom he will criticize because he can, with
neither enforceability upon others nor consequences to himself. That
some may consider him hypocritical doesn't signify. The worst that can
happen to him is to be voted out of office. If half what he's been
accused of over the Iraq Oil for Food program turns out to be true, he's
set for life anyway.

The U.N. seems more like a diplomats' debating (Or mutual mental
masturbation) club because it has, first, members with complete veto
power and, second, no way to enforce rulings unless a powerful member
decides to go along and do the enforcing. I'm not at all sure its
independently having such power would be a good thing.

Sad, yes... and then some... and it's vastly closer to the truth than
whatever various instruction in "Civics" we've all had would have insisted
we believe.

Wouldn't the world be an interesting place if every person on earth bothered
to examine all aspects of their own country's (province's, state's,
county's, city's, ward's) government with the same eyes they train on other
nations - anad especially with the eyes they reserve for the UN?

Unfortunately for that statement, the problem is that the U.N. is supposed
to be the BASTION - the EXAMPLE - of "unbiased" yet it is the centre of it
with Kofi Anan (sp?) as it's head. If the man keeps strangely quiet on the
excesses of Mugabe, he cannot make any comment on any other country.

I know our Govt is prejudiced against the unemployed and the sick and
elderly and have said so. I know it is showing itself as prejudiced against
the Indigenous Aussies for not apologising for past wrongs done by Oz Govts
and people of that time. However, if the world needs and example of the
correct way a Govt should be, then it HAS to look towards the U.N.
Unfortunately it cannot.

I truly hope that one day some new and wonderful peaceful device is invented
that revolutionises all aspects of life and when that device is invented,
it's inventor keeps the secret to him/herself and insists that only
countries that adhere to equality in all sectors gets to use it. Hard to
imagine but if that device were something that allowed us to mine the
asteroids, settle planets and power anything all added into one with no
pollution, then that would be something that all countries couldn't ignore.
I know, I live in a science fiction world and it is unlikely ever to happen.
Sue me for wanting equality!
