hello again on my shortness of breath. i also have a heavyness or tightness
of chest, occasionally a slight rippling spasming in chest. also i get
tightning of throat. this is fith week. i do better lying down at night.
could this be the ms hug. my ms center closed and my nuro isn't ms
specialist, he didn'y do spinal mri just brain which showed no recient
lesions. every test for heart lungs ect is negative. i found a newsgroup
at mass general hospital where two people had symptoms like mine. i had
this feeling in past but always only lasted a day or so. old mri showed
spots on both brain & spinal cord.
thanks jude

hi jude,

my experiences with the 'M.S. Hug' weren't exactly like that -- i had
them around the trunk, like i was wearing a scarlett o'hara style
corset. for the longest time, i had no idea it even WAS an M.S.
symptom. i never had a tightening in my throat, but now that yo mention
it, it WAS better when lying down -- sitting up was when i really
noticed it. i never noticed shortness of breath, just the sensation of
tightness and constricting.

even if your neuro isn't an M.S. specialist, you've talked to him/her
about it, right? it seems liek it would be possible for you to
experience the M.S. hug and also have another problem which is causing
the shortness of breath and throat tightness. or, it could be that my
experience with the 'hug' is just different from yours, i suppose.

is the 'Hug' related to spinal cord lesions? 15 years post-dx, i've
STILL never had a full spinal MRI. the neuro said that it was easy
enough to infer the location of spinal lesions based on the symptoms
one was experiencing, so he never scheduled one, i've had several brain
MRIs, but that's all.

i even asked for a spinal MRI at one point, was having a lot of back
problems, but he just had me do a regular X-Ray, and it showd early
stage osteoporosis, so that's what he put the problems down to, said i
didn't need an MRI. I've wondered abouht it -- i realize there's
nothing they can do for spinal OR brain lesions, but i've also heard of
people whose spinal lesions cause other problems, and so i wonder. i
also wonder why he seems so adamant against ordering the full spinal.
for a while, i assumed it was the cost, but when i asked for one, i
could have afforded it, so....who knows?

maybe he thinks i'll just turn into one of those annoying patients who
says 'but what about this lesion, i heard it could cause X,Y,Z' or
something.

no clue. seeing how many folks on the NG have had them, it's more
confusing than worrisome to me, that he just seems determined NOT to
order one for me.

sorry i couldn't be more help, best to you in figuring out what's going
on, and getting some relief from it.
