| Hi,
I am new here so I taught it would be nice to introduce myself . My
name is Kasia, i am 26 y. old and I was recently diagnosed with MS.
Right now i am ok - i just had optic neuritis - but this was my second
"neurological incident" (few years ago I had a numbness in the right
part of my face). My MRI shows some laisons, I have rather typical
symptoms (like fatigue, pins-and-needles in my right hand etc.; plus
my mother has MS). I'm also waiting for the results from my spinal tap
and then my dr will probably start some treatment (I'm sure I will
write then to ask about drugs ). I was still hoping that maybe if my
spinal fluid was fine I would not have MS but my dr said that I had it
anyway.
So now I am trying to get used to the thought that I am sick and I
need to go on somehow .
I hope i can post any silly questions in this group - it is really
helpful to have a "place" where one can ask/say anything
Thanks for your support,
Kasia
Ps. Sorry if my English is sometimes wierd (it is my second language)

| Hi Kasia!
So glad you found your way here. Feel free to asking any questions
you might have, you will probably find what you need here. There
are a lot of great people here that know what you are going through.
Silly questions...there is no such thing, any goes!!!
English is your second language, what is your first? I couldn't tell!!
Smiles & Best Wishes!

| Thanks for a warm welcome . It is still somehow unreal for me - still
can't belive it... Probably normal reaction. On the other hand it is
kind of relief - I seriously started to believe I was hypochondric (and
for sure everybody else thought so...). And now everything is somehow
in place - all my "weird" symptoms etc.
Just a question to start :D - what is the relation between MS and
cigarettes or alkohol. I am not smoking or drinking to much, but
sometimes I do go with friends for a "beer" and I am not going to
resign from it. I know that dr will tell me that cigarettes/alkohol
are bad - well... I know it already . I was just wondering if there
is any direct relation between these and MS. Anybody knows anythinhg
about it??

hi kasia, dobry dzien i powitanie! (I don't really speak polish, just
collect little phrases in languages other than english and use them
when the opportunity presents itself.) ;->
there have been some studies done showing that cigarette smoking is
connected with M.S. -- the one i recall was somthing about non-smokers
with risk factors for M.S. actually being diagnosed with it was lower
than that of smokers. and, of course, it's bad for one's health
generally.
i've never heard anything about alcohol being detrimental, at least not
in moderation! :-> i don't think your doctor will tell you that
alcohol is bad, other than if you have problems with coordination,
gait, and such, being tipsy will tend to increase those problems. many
doctors recommend moderate drinking for it's general health benefits.
seems likely the doc would be anti-tobacco, as many of them are, but as
long as you're not two-fisting yourself into oblivion on a regular
bsis, it seems very doubtful that the doc would recommend giving up
alcohol altogether.
have a beer for me next time you go out with your friends. ;->

| Hey Kasia, Rose is right. The only time any of my doctors have told
me to stay away from alcohol is when I am on a medication that
indicates "Do Not Drink". I have a drink from time to time and
I just don't smoke for personal reasons (family history of cancer, a lot
of cancer. Why rock the boat! After all I already have MS, can't
handle another disease, not that it still can't happen just because I
don't smoke!).
All I can say is we have MS, we are not dead!! Live and have fun, just
be smart while you are having that fun...you know all the motherly
warnings, I don't need to lecture you!!! Sorry, I am getting prepared,
my oldest daughter is a year away from High School! SCARY!!!!!
Smiles!

| That's exactly what I thought! Anyway - I am not dead yet, and I am
still planning to have a lot of fun in my life . I will probably have
to change some of my habits but not all for sure. i just wanted to ask
you about it because there are many deifferent opinions on waht one can
and cannot do having MS.
So now I know I am right
Thanks!

If it's a lot of fun you're really after, then may I recommend naked bungy
jumping? :-)

One can bungy jump naked. I know: I did it myself just last month, and
this week marks 10 years since my MS diagnosis.

| bungy jumping is one of the things that I always wanted to do.
unfortunately i am too scared to do it. but it is still in my plans -
something like "if i do this there will be nothing i can't do"
ps. congratulations - it was brave....

| My husband just bought me a Harley Sportster 1200C. I also know of another
gal with MS who also rides.
You can do anything your limits will handle.

| Looks like I am going to have to renege on the challenge. My capture
program failed me. I keep trying to capture some snaps from your video and
it will
not let me.
And I cannot grab the movie to put it on my hard drive.
