I may have misread this but i thought the decision to pull the drug was
the manufacturers so it would be worldwide. or it sounded worldwide..

It's not one but two deaths in a very short time, plus the trial period of
the drug was only half on it's way (1 year out of 2).

I'm pretty sure only one of the patients that developed PML has died.

Still not good.

kevin, yahoo news ran an article on 3/4/05, stating that the second
patient who used banned M.S. drug had died.

it's the only report i've read stating that both patients had died --
i've never seen a retraction, but everything i've read since then
indicates that one patient died, and one is still hanging in there.

not sure which is correct, but like marcel, i also saw the news that
two had died from PML.

These patients were part of the initial trials so had been on the
drug the longest. It is probable that more would have died as
they reached the same point in time on the drug.

Not that many people were in the trials, so its remarkable that two people
died from such an obscure disease. I can understand people being upset the
drug turned out to be a killer, but not the desire to go on it, or continue
taking it, as if somehow wishfull thinking would make them the lucky one not
to catch progressive multifocal giantIllkillyourassness. (neural JVC)

Let's not forget that the people who died were on Tysabri and Avonex
combined. I still have huge hopes that Tysabri by itself will come
back, and soon i hope.

Right. Also, this is a disease that usually only people with severely
compromised immune systems get, i.e., people with AIDS.
