hi Jan,

civil and criminal trials, among other things! ;-> this was back in
'02. some people had some unfortunate results when switching from other
meds to neurontin -- mainly folks with seizure disorders and bi-polar
disorder -- and a 'whistleblower,' who in actuality was just a dude who
took part it falsified marketing practices and then got scared on his
own behalf, blew the whistle. they paid doctors to write reports, paid
other docs to NOT write reports, but allow their signatures to be
appended to them -- they did everything they could to find a wider
market for Neurontin.

one of the phonied-up papers involved Neurontin for neuropathic pain.
that's where the irony comes in -- neuro pain is still an *off label*
use for neurontin in many places, but it's the one thing i've heard so
many folks say it works *well* for (although unfortunately, it did not
in my case).

here's an URL with some of the story, from back in '02:

http://www.vachss.com/help_text/archive/neurontin2.html

fines were paid, settlements were made, people were fired -- and they
got their blockbuster drug, after all. if it does the trick for you,
and since it's now available as a generic and thus *may* be affordable,
that's really what counts, right?

best,
rose
