Dove, there was a time when i was working, after my divorce but before
my diagnosis, when i was in this kind of 'middle' spot financially -- i
had enough to cover our regular expenses and a little left over for
fun, etc., but by no means a LOT of money.
it used to be so much FUN shopping for gifts on a budget, to me at
least. it's like, ok, i've got 50 bucks, let's hit the thrift stores
and the dollar stores and the re-sale boutiques and go searching. back
then i had no trouble getting around, so it was like an adventure -- go
here, go there, search for THE perfect gift that i can afford -- it was
challenging, and i enjoyed challenges back then. :-> i also knew
where all the bargains were, and how to get to them by bus, and had the
physical strength to tote stuff around.
having such a big family, we all got into the habit of not getting
gifts for our siblings, but all of us agreed "presents are for kids,"
so we all got things for our kids, neices, and nephews. when they're
little, it's always so much fun -- before they get to the "I want X Box
360!" stage.
do you remember "generic Cabbage Patch dolls?" LOL!! Tam had one when
she was little. i remember watching moms whacking each other with their
purses and trampling over each other to try to get the 'privilege' of
paying hundreds of dollars for a CLOTH DOLL. sheesh! double-sheesh!
when i was a kid in Catholic school, the nuns told us the reason we
gave each other gifts for Jesus' birthday was because we were
recognizing the Spirit of Christ that lived within each human being.
somehow, i doubt the Spirit of Christ wants us to smack people over the
head and trample them down to get to that last X-Box!!! =:o
