Sylvia, i think that IS how he's 'enjoying' the day. you'll notice, if
you look, that Abdi threw another "one state, two state, red state,
blue state" into Abe's lovely Thanksgiving column, and even took a 'xxx
xxxx' dig at Michael's question about reading glasses -- something
about possums and hogs breaking the frames and lenses.
sheesh! dude, see if your wife needs some help in the kitchen or
something, why dont'cha?
rose, already enjoying the day. :->
i hope yours is happy too, Sylvia! i really wish a lot of us could
somehow ALL live close; i'm definitely HOPING to be proud of my
cooking, so i'll offer you a virtual slice of homemade punkin pie --
calorie-free, what a deal! ;->
XO,

Yeah, I did notice that. . .which is why I finally went ARRRRGH!!!!!!!
"One state, two state, red state, blue state. . ." hey, that would
make a great parody! I even have the Seuss book here, waiting to give
to my cousin's kids.
Now, somebody tell me: how did the states get labeled "red" and "blue?"
I thought "red" was the "commie" color, as in "better dead than red."
Ironic because the "red" states are the more conservative ones. . .
I'll take you up on that virtual pumpkin pie! Since it's virtual, it
won't fill me up TOO much!
Have a GREAT day, Rose and everybody!
Sylvia

the 'red states' were the ones who voted for Bush in 2000; the 'blue
states' the ones who went to Gore in 2000. i believe the colors came --
you're not gonna believe this! -- from the colors Tim Russert was using
to mark the electoral college votes on his "Russ Slate" during the '00
elections.
over time, SOME people began using 'red state' and 'blue state' to
mean, generically, 'conservative' vs. 'liberal' states, which is
K-LAME. (for one thing, there were plenty of folks who voted for Gore
in 2000, who did not vote for John Kerrey in '04. for another thing,
the electoral votes going to either Al Gore or GWB in 2000 says zip,
zero, nada, about the cultural values of the state, or the social
leanings of its citizens.
it's a goofy, goofy idea, IMO, to carry over which states' EC votes
went to Bush, or to Gore, five years ago, as any kind of political or
socio-political descriptions of the respective conservatism or
liberality of those states' voters.
but, i guess, it's this decade's stupid catch-phrase, easier to
remember 'red' and 'blue' than to engage in actual political analysis.
heh, it always makes *me* think of Crips (blue) and Piru/Bloods (red)!!
