OT:OT:OT Is Iraq worst than Vietnam?
|
|
|
| The other day I was in the faculty room of a local high school (my wife is a
substitute teacher). There was this civic teacher that looked late 40 ish.
He is a Vietnam veteran. And he was saying in the beginning this
administration would object when you compared Vietnam to Iraq. But now its
worst, Vietnam had a very secure and civil capital. In Iraq its the war
zone. We had vietnamization of the war, if George was there he would have
known.

But not everyone volunteers to do what he thinks is right. Kerry
thought it was his duty to serve. He did so. Gore thought it was his
duty to serve. He did so. Clinton disagreed with the war. He
registered for the selective service and did not get called.
Bush supported the war, agreed that the government was correct in
being there ... but thought someone else should fight. He used his
family's name to get into the National Guard and deliberately
checked the box that asked if he would serve overseas.
Any idiot might be able to carry a rifle, but at least one chose not to.

| This is actually the mentality, people, Dubaya AssUmes that "Any idiot can
carry a rifle", in fact Vietnam veterans are still
paying for that fiasco and obviously Vietnamese have paid dearly. Only
Dubaya, Cheney and the rest of them do not get
it.

| I remember it well...I was there. It was never totally 'secure' nor
completely 'civil' by definition. Brothers were lost on downtown
streets of Saigon.
Oh, unless you're talking about Hanoi, the other capital...IT hasn't
been 'civil' since 1954 and we saw to it that IT was never 'secure' til
73 after the ceasefire was signed in Paris. Funny thing about that
ceasefire, the ARVN and the US honored it, the NVA and the Vietcong
didn't. Much more can be learned from the history books than from a
high school faculty room.
I'm really getting weary of all this Vietnam bullshit. I was there,
others weren't. Doesn't matter. If it did I'd have to give up some of
my friends.
The pols are running about 50/50 give or take. That means half the
country is full of shit and the other half is just full of shit. Imagine
that.
Let's all get drunk and be somebody...hell let's do some good drugs and

What special attention do you think Clinton got and how do you know?
I can use Google, but I don't believe everything I read. Please
provide proof. If it's credible, I'll acknowledge it ... but since
I've already done the research, I doubt we'll hear from you again.

I did some further research. The final reason that he wasn't drafted
was because his selective service no. was 311 ... no chance of being
drafted with that number.
He DID use a number of ploys to refrain from serving in a war he
found reprehensible. That might make him a draft dodger, but not a
hypocrite like Bush who supported the war but refused to fight.

The National Socialist [Nazi] party was no more "Socialist" than
Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard was "Republican."

That I may be ... I'm just not wrong. The Nazis were fascists by
every definition of the word. As one of the writers below points
out, the term is used by right-wingers to discredit socialism.
I'm not sure if that's what you're trying to do, or if you're simply
uninformed, but it would be in your best interests to do a tad more
reading before making such outrageous and incorrect statements ...
unless that's how you wish to be known.
Ya know, Rob, I can't continue to research everything in the world
for you ... you're going to have to do some work yourself.

The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German:
Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei), better known as the
NSDAP or the Nazi Party was a political party that was led to power
in Germany by Adolf Hitler in 1933. The term Nazi is a short form of
the German word (NA)tionalso(ZI)alist (National Socialist) - the
ideology of the NSDAP (generally considered to be a variant of
fascism under a misleading name).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSDAP
"Nazism" or "National Socialism" refers to the politics of the
dictatorship which ruled Germany from 1933 to 1945, "the Third
Reich". Nazism is commonly associated with Fascism; although, the
Nazis claimed to espouse a nationalist totalitarian form of
socialism (as opposed to Marxist international socialism).
The German National Socialist Party advocated "Nationalsozialismus"
("National Socialism"). However, some disagree "By majority consent
of both socialists and non-socialists, National Socialism (Nazism)
and kindred movements are not considered to be socialist." (Salvadori)
*Despite Salvadori's statement, some right-wing groups (which wish
to discredit socialism) refer to Nazism as being socialist ...*

Youre confusing enforcement with method of government. That it was a
fascist state has nothing to do with it being a socialist state. It was as
socialist as it could possibly be. In every respect, in every detail,
altering definitions, after the fact, simply spits in the face of truth.
Socialism was its core purpose. It was what shaped their country, its how
their society was. How anyone can deny this is beyond me. Go back. Read
some old pre-WWII newspapers. Hell I threw out enough that were insulating
the north wall in our living room to educate anyone thinking otherwise.
Perhaps I should have saved some... for you.
