Dude (or dudette)!
Why are you so ashamed of your condition?
It is nothing to be ashamed of!
It is not a punishment for bad thoughts or actions by an evil god.
It is not your fault!
I choose to sunbathe nude at nudist camps (social nudism) to control
my ps. Nobody thinks the less of me there because of my messed up
skin. (Granted nudists are more tolerant of human fralities than are
textiles, but still...)
Come out of your psoriasis closet & embrace life! This is the only one
you've got on earth. Live it!
BTW, I'm 50 years old, male and ugly as all get out! Fat too. Nudists
treat me like everyone else. You should try it.
Frosty
P.S. if anyone wants to ask me questions about using nudism for ps
treatment, like what to expect at a nudist camp, "male" issues, etc.
feel free to respond or email. My address is good as is.

| Ha Ha. Well I am 57 and getting fat. Well I wish I could be that comfortable. I have had this for 30 years and I have tried to accept it, love it and let it go. But for some reason, it just won't leave.
If you love something let it go; if it comes back to you; it is yours. Yup!!! This is mine.
It is hard to accept the pain and itchy, bleeding, flaking skin. There isn't a minute go by that it is not doing one or the other. My skin demands my undivided attention.
I wish it were different. None of my four sisters got this condition. Just me.
... I will get on with life. I come here once in awhile for support and understanding and tips. Thanks for your ideas. Actually, we are adding a deck from our bedroom and with a tall fence I could cook out there pretty easily. It is summer here and I have been out in the sun a lot but my skin has just gotten worse. Figure that out???

Well, some people don't respond well to sunshine (just like all other
treatments.)
You gotta build up to it though. Just like building a tan: it can't be
done in one day. Burning is really, really bad!
You know, since our scales are white, they reflect light. So one must
find a way to make them less reflective.
Water, like a swimming pool or hot tub works real well for me, (I see
no difference with or without chlorine, but without invites infections
to broken or compromised skin. I won't swim in a fresh water
lake...ever!)
There's a product called Zim's Crack Creme which is an oily liquid
that works really, really well as makeing the white seem to disappear.
And and smells good too. But it has some alcohol in it, and if you're
like me you don't give a crap what the doctors say: If it itches I'm
gonna damned well scratch it! And I've been burned bad by PUVA so have
been itching REALLY badly for about 16 years! When I scratch there's
no messin' around. I go for the blood! The alcohol stings, but pain
beats itch every time IMO.

Hi, Frosty,
There have been times where thoughts similar to Wanderer's have crossed my
mind, though I have no guilt over having psoriasis. Remember Charlie
Brown's friends Lucy and Linus? Or do you remember his other friend
Pigpen who always went about followed by a cloud of dust. Well, who would
like to go around followed by a cloud of flaking dead skin? I know it is
something of an exageration, but I can understand where Wanderer is coming
from.

Please, Please, PLEASE don't tell me that sunshine is good for psoriasis
in anybody. After having a zillion cases of basal cell skin cancer, a
zillion cases of squamash cell skin cancer and a single brush with
malignant melanoma (all of which are caused by the sun), please don't tell
me that I may need to actually get out into the sun.

If you don't get C, then it's good for getting rid of P!
There are over 500 hits for squamous and P in pubmed.
Just looked at around 10 of them. I'm reluctant to go
behind your doctor's authority by saying much. :0
But you can,

Add in keywords to pare it down. ;~/

Do you know that everybody sheds skin? That most household dust is
mostly dead skin cells?
It's bad enough having ignorant people call ps a "yucky" skin
condition, but to call it that yourself, and to act as if you should
carry a sign and shout "unclean" everywhere you go...Jeez! C'mon!
Look, I spend a number of years in the state pen with psoriasis.
Y'all, there is NOTHING more valuable than your freedom!
To *voluntarily* imprison yourself because your body is not "perfect"
is stupid bordering on insane!
Go live you lives! You have so much! Quit taking your life for
granted. This is it (on earth)! Go out and LIVE!
I wonder what Wanderer would do if he gained 150lbs? Would he be
equally embarassed/ashamed to appear in public? What if he was, God
forbid, in a fire or a horrible accident and lost part or most of his
face?
People, you are so blessed to be able to walk, or roll your
wheelchair, or limp into a drugstore and buy a roll of Scotch tape and
some antacid; To be allowed to drive a car; To be able to mow your
lawn or wear a pair of red socks...
I could just go on & on.
And (some of) you waste that precious gift moping about your non-fatal
skin disease?? Hell, I itch TERRIBLY...bleed all over my clothes &
bedding. And I'm SO happy to be free and alive!

You want insane? Watch the Korean movie, OLDBOY (2002 by Korean
director Chan-wook Park -- a former philosophy student and Hitchcock
devotee -- uses his influences to create a mesmerizing psychological
drama with a resolution that will leave you speechless)
You can get it on Netflix. I doubt anywhere else.

| Yes I feel like 'pigpen' alot. When I stand up and flakes are dropping all over the place. I am fully aware of the fact that we all shed skin every 28 days or so. But every 5 mins is a little too fast forward for me. It would be nice to overlook the condition but everyone else would have too also. Today I was out and had one person recoil from me and say ooooooooo what have you got?. And two women speaking about my condition as if I wasn't there and looking at me up and down. A third woman asked me in a kind way what was on my feet. But mostly I am met with fear. Hard to ignore the fear in people's glances when they think you are infectious.

I understand this well!
Imagine the remarks I get at nudist camps!
But...this is the perfect opportunity to educate a woefully ignorant
public about a disease that millions of humans have.
A few brave souls like you and me can help the women and children who
are too scared or timid to venture out and public and whom are
imprisoned because they fear the comments of selfish, ignorant
imbeciles.
When I was in prison I had inmates who wanted to KILL ME because I had
a scary, unknown (to them) skin disease!
They were told that blood carries AIDS and so assumed that ANY
contact, even visual contact(!) with ANY blood outside the body meant
that they'd get AIDS, (No, really!)
They thought that ANY skin disease was evidence of AIDS. (Just try
explaining Kaposi's sarcoma to a bunch of ignorant inmates,
whydon'tcha!)
BTW, I don't have AIDS FWIW.
So when they'd see spots of blood on my shirt, they FREAKED OUT!
I spend a lot of time educating ignorant people! (There's a whole lot
of people who don't know the word "contagious" and so first a little
English lessons are often in order...)
But here in the free world, I can assure you that if you have a
knowledge of psoriasis, if you use the correct and proper terminology,
and if you'll not display any "attitude" but rather come off as
extremely polite, caring and understanding while you explain to the
morons (sorry, but they *still* piss me off too!) what they see on
your skin, you will "heap hot coals upon their heads" and they'll
become educated, kinder to people who are different and/or who have
disabilities (although other than our inability to be underwear models
I can't think of which disability we have!) and I guarantee you you
will feel empowered and superior instead of like a trod-upon leper, a
scourge to society, a "pig-pen."
