Hi, Can I ask a question?

I made a HUGE mistake a few nights ago.
My girlfriend has herpes and we have been having sex for years with out
me getting it, but a few nights ago we were both really drunk, and she
has a full blown outbreak, blisters and all, and yep, you guessed it, I
had UNprotected sex with her, with her having a very active outbreak.

It is not her fault, we were very drunk and I was pushing her and she
*wanted* to either give me oral sex OR use a condom and I said to hell
with it.
i know, very stupid!

I love this Gal, and never really *cared* if I did pick it up because I
plan on being with her forever, (so please don't come down hard on her)
it is not her fault, I was being a jerk, seeing how much I can get away
with.

my question is, how long would it take for me to notice anything? and
what would I notice?
so far I notice nothing.

Is it possible that I did not get it since I do not feel anything yet?

Please answer this for me.

Wayne. thank you.

Hi Wayne,

There are so many variables, that it is really difficult to know for sure if
you've gotten herpes from this incident or not. First of all, what kind of
herpes does your girlfriend have, type 1 or 2? Second of all, do you already
have herpes? You won't know this unless you've had a blood test to rule it out.
If you haven't had a blood test, then you really don't know if you've had it all
along or not. Also, have you ever had a cold sore? If you have, then you
already have herpes - probably type 1, and that may have a say in whether or not
you pick up type 2. If you have type 1 and your girlfriend has type 1, then you
probably didn't get infected again. See, it can get complicated.

To answer your direct question, you may never feel anything. You may feel
something tomorrow. You may not feel anything for many years. What will you
feel? We all have slightly different symptoms, so that's difficult to answer.

I suggest talking to your doctor about getting one of the herpes blood tests.
There are some rather accurate ones out there. My personal favorite is the
Herpes Specific Western Blot. It can be a bit difficult to get, though. I had
to basically orchestrate the whole thing myself.

Anyway, if you have a blood test NOW, and it comes up negative, then you know
you didn't have herpes prior to this. Then wait 12 to 16 weeks for the next
blood test. It takes that long for herpes antibodies to show up in your blood
-and that's what the test measures. If the second test comes up negative, then
that means you more than likely don't have herpes. But if the second test comes
up positive, then you picked up herpes during that last encounter.

Of course, if it doesn't matter to you whether or not you have herpes, then
don't worry about it, and if you show symptoms, then that will be that. If you
ever break up with this girl, then have the blood test so you'll know what
you've got...or not got.

Yep.

Now *I* have a question. How do you know you aren't and haven't been
infected? Have you ever been blood tested for Herpes?

A virus doesn't know the difference and doesn't care who's fault it is
anyhow. That's a human problem. Although it shouldn't be, imho.

>my question is, how long would it take for me to notice anything? and

Earliest, about 2-3 days. Latest, never. In fact, most (75%-90%)
people infected with herp either never have an outbreak or have
symptoms so mild they don't even notice them.
As far as what you'd notice, could be any number of things. Classic
symptoms though, would be redness at first, followed by some tiny
blister like bumps in clusters. But not everyone's symptoms are
"classic". Some people describe "paper cut" like symptoms, and the
list goes on.

Yes, it's very possible you didn't get it. Not because you don't feel
anything yet though. That'd be no indication. The only way I know of
to find out is to have a blood test done right away. If it's positive,
you were infected more than 12-16 weeks prior. If it's negative,
you're still not out of the woods. It takes 12-16 weeks for antibodies
to develop (for most people) so you'll need another blood test after
that long. If the second one is positive (and the first one negative),
that would nail down the timing of infection.

>Please answer this for me.

That's the best I can do.

>Wayne. thank you.

M2 you're welcome

Hi Wayne ~

That's what we're all hear for..

I don't think this is going to be a problem at all when you stop and think
about how much you love this girl and what you would be willing to endure to
be with her.. ya know?

> my question is, how long would it take for me to notice anything? and

I guess I have to answer your questions with a question. How do you know
that you don't already have herpes? You may already have it and not know it
because you don't get any signs or symptoms. 90% of people that have genital
herpes don't know it and you might be in that group.

> Is it possible that I did not get it since I do not feel anything yet?

It's possible that you either have it or you don't have it. The only real
way to know for sure is to have proper herpes testing done:

I hope this helps,
