I don't know what to do if my neuro only prescribes Diludid for migraine
patients and if i am allergic to it, I have no idea how to ask her w/o
sounding like i am looking for pain meds, etc, like acting like a druggy

??!?
I think you're getting the cart before the horse. If you DO know
you're allergic to it, tell her when and why you took it before, and
what your allergic symptoms were.

But if you DON'T know now that you're allergic to a drug she hasn't
prescribed yet, IF she Rx's it, don't you think you ought to at least try it?

If it turns out you ARE allergic to it, what in the world is wrong with
telling her? That's not drug-seeking behavior, that's reporting real
allergic symptoms from taking this new-to-your-system drug.

I would agree with Ginnie, it is not clear what the situation is. Dilaudid
is usually regarded as having about the highest addiction potential of any
of the Class II opioids (which still isn't very great for patients using
them for genuine pain), so asking for something else would certainly not
seemlike drug-seeking beavior.

It is important to use the term allergic carefully and correctly. An
allergic reaction to a medicine can be very dangerous and, depending on the
type of reaction, can be a near-absolute contraindication to taking it.
Many patients, however, use the term to describe any adverse reaction to the
medicine. Opioids often cause nausea, but that is not mediated by an
allergic mechanism. They may cause intense itching, but that turns out, at
least a major part of the time, to be a direct action of the drug on the mu
(morphine) receptors in the nervous system, not a reaction mediated by
allergy.

Melissa,

ARE you allergic to it? If you are, isn't that information already in your
medical history that you gave her at your first appointment? Come on now.

top posted..

This is a very strong drug and I have never heard
of it being given for migraine pain. Have you been
tested for other thing like brain tumor etc. Please
dont take this wrong but just numbing you up without
testing for other things I would ask him why...
If you have had tests please forgive me...

I don't know
I was taking it and levaquin at the same time so I wasn't sure.
but as of the last day or two, i have been only taking the antibiotic so
I am guessing it is the Diluadid
I have to mention it to her and the pharmacy.
I didn't realize it was a derivative of morphine and I itch from that.

Melissa,

If you didn't realize that Dilaudid is related to morphine, you have an
exceedingly short memory. You and I have discussed this before, several
times. Come on.
