Classic (i.e. real) Migraines

| Anybody in here actually suffer from real migraines i.e. severe pain with
aura & sickness etc?
Sounds like most of you just have bog standard headaches or those associated
with caffeine abuse or CFS.
You wouldn't know what had hit you if actually did have a real migraine.

| You're kidding, right? You think we're a bunch of faking whiners? Think
again!!!
Oh, & BTW, "Classic" migraine is accompanied by aura ... "common" migraine
is not. Do your homework. What is a "bog" standard headache?

Yeah that's what I said.
Classic (or real) migraines are the ones with auras.
I take it you don't get an aura :-)

You can call it a troll if you want.
It does piss me off when people call their run of the mill headaches
"migraines" for no good reason.
99.9% of headaches without visual aura are *not* migraines. So if you call
your non-aura headache a "migraine" you better have good reason for doing
so.
So few people in here even bring up the topic of aura it's amazing that they
all think they have migraines.

| Maybe you need to do more research before sharing your ignorance with the
group. A simple search of common migraine and classic migraine should
educate you. You will find they actually have abandoned the terms classic
and common for a more actual description of migraine with aura, migraine
without aura. Having an aura is not the magic descriptor. There are so
many other issues that come into play, but then we can discuss that with a
doctor, not some person off the street who cares to jump in and make casual
assumptions just to anger others.

I am well aware of the difference between classic (i.e. real) migraine which
have aura and so-called common aura which do not.
That was my point. The dumbing down of the definition and diagnosis of
migraine to include headaches which clearly are not real/classic migraines.
i.e. the sort that most of the attention seekers in here claim to "suffer"
from. Funny how most posters are middle aged women...

should say "so-called common which do not".
PS: All personal abuse will be/has been reported to ISPs.

| ISPs don't care about what you report.
It's too bad that you're so personally in pain of some physical or mental
way that you feel a need to get on a newsgroup and try to create pain for
others. Truly, I don't think people on here care about your description of
migraines. All people know is they have pain and that's what we're here to
do...share and support. It's too bad you can't participate in that.

I would contribute but most people in here do not suffer from migraine so I
do not see the point.
For such people here is the advice you need: Headaches are curable with
aspirin. You can buy it in a pharmacy. Hope that helped.

Aye, the twit comes on here and starts telling people that unless they have
an aura they don't have a migraine. People who have, in many cases, suffered
chronic pain for years, had the condition actually diagnosed by
medically-trained people, yet some twit comes on here and in the first post
decides to abuse people himself. he may not have sworn, but he was just as
abusive, and continued to be so. Reports to ISPs can work against the twit
too ;-)

The definition has been dumbed down to suit the bored housewives who swamp
GPs' surgeries every week, but the fact remains. Real migraines require
aura.

If you had used that sort of language to me on the phone I would have
reported you to the police. Why people like you think it is acceptable on
the Internet God only knows.
I hope you do have a responsible ISP which takes this level of abuse
seriously.

It gets the point across more quickly, especially to guys like this one who,

Why? Because you had been slandered? Helen called you a "wanker", which I am
sure you are ... come on; don't deny it. Dr. Kinsey laid that one to rest
years ago.
And the "f" word is commonly used in good literature all the time, and, if
you were to ask me, I'd tell you that I thought it's use most appropriate in
cases such as yours.
I would truly like to have a picture of the desk sergeant's face when you

you were a wanker who knew XXXX all. Ha.

Without provocation of any kind, your first post to our migraine support
group ended with: "You wouldn't know what had hit you if actually did have a
real migraine." Is that your idea of what's "acceptable on the Internet?"

I hadn't seen the above due to me kill-filing the OP... Oh dear, oh dear, oh
dear.... I've now burst out laughing! I'm sure the local constabulary would
have a car at my door in seconds to take me to the nick... not! Does the OP
think that the threat of police because I used a rude word is supposed to
scare me? What a waste of space ;-) I can see it now...
Constable Greeny: 'Ere, Sarge... there's this person who sez a woman swore
at him on the Internet and he wants us to 'nick 'er. Shall I send the boys
round?
Sergeant Bunion: Let's see Goody, we've got terrorism to deal with, an
average of ten people a day killed on the roads, muggings, break-ins,
violence, drunks & drugs to deal with and this sensitive soul thinks we
should be nicking a woman for saying the f-word on the Internet? This would
be person who thinks he can insult whoever he likes, but just because he
hasn't sworn then that's okay? Yor havin' a larff, Goody! You can be putting
that promotion on hold for a while I think!
Meanwhile, back in the real world... the rest of us get on with working out
how to gain relief from chronic & acute pain bearing in mind the in the
support group periodic know-it-alls turn up and tell us we are making it up
mixed in with the banana-skin cure and the tin-foil beanies ;)

Visual aura is not the sole defining factor in migraine. "Classic"
visual aura only occurs in 15% of folks with migraine (i am one with
strong visual aura symptoms, for the record). Visual aura is also
associated with a higher risk for stroke. But a "common" migraine,
without a *visual* aura, still is a migraine -- and it still has an
aura (prodrome, migraine, post-drome pattern); it also affects one
hemisphere, may be accompanied by nausea and photophobia, may last
for 72 hours in many women but have a typically shorter duration in
men, may involve otherwise unexplained scalp tenderness, and may
disrupt sleep.

Your getting pissed off is your problem, and is not of much interest
to others here, since we don't know you. I hear all sorts of
headaches and TMJ problems called migraines in my daily life, too --
but i don't get pissed off -- i just take a moment to explain the
symptoms of migraine -- both with and without visual aura -- so that
they'll be better understood.
> 99.9% of headaches without visual aura are *not* migraines.
That's a remarkable statistic. Can you cite a study or are you just
bloviating?

Why? So as not to piss you off? Or so as to seek and obtain more
effective treatment?
> So few people in here even bring up the topic of aura it's amazing
> that they all think they have migraines.
Actually, most of us here know full well the complete litany of
non-visual symptoms of migraine, including one-sided head pain,
nausea, photophobia, disrupted sleep patterns, and so forth, that i
think it safe to say that we are more likely to accept as factual
current medical studies that state that 85% of migraineurs report no
visual auras than we are to listen to your aggressive commands about
what we should believe.
I do have visual auras with my migraines, but i know several people
outside this group -- real life friends of mine -- who have been
diagnosed with migraine by competent doctors and who have never had
striking visual auras and report no visual disturbances beyond a
slight muddied or grey-out visual scotoma.
We can't all be Hildegard von Bingens, now, can we? :-)

| Just so you know, only 20-25% of REAL Migraineurs experience the aura phase.
This is proven in countless scientific studies. Now, I have nothing else to
say to you unless you stop being so rude. If and when you become a decent
human being, maybe we can have a conversation.

| Well, I DO get the aura, but I'll go back on what I posted to you earlier,
and reply to you again. I don't know where you got your attitude about "real
Migraines." The two most common forms of Migraine are Migraine with aura
(formerly called classic Migraine) and Migraine without aura (formerly
called common Migraine). BOTH of these are very REAL forms of Migraine
DISEASE. Very few people have ONLY Migraine with aura. Most who have
Migraine with aura also have Migraine without aura. Again, only 20-25% of
Migraineurs experience the aura phase of the Migraine attack.

| Andrew,
You have no room to talk about "personal abuse" as your very first post was
so rude as to be just that, personal abuse toward anyone with any form of
Migraine disease that does not include aura. If you are indeed a Migraineur,
you should be far more understanding of other Migraineurs. Get a grip.
