I saw a piece recently about a man who cleans up prairie dog towns in a
non-lethal manner. He bought a truck-mounted vacuum cleaner, padded the
storage bin, and vacuums them out of their holes. Alas for the poor
rodents, they do not get to spend the rest of their days in a luxurious
retirement apartment, they are sold to somone who uses them to feed animals
of an endangered species that dotes on prairie dogs in the wild. I dunno if
the thing would work on groundhogs, but if it is neighborhood-wide, it may
be an industrial pollutant.
