If you read the "proper use" section in "patient information", of
Relpax, you will note that it references sumatriptan (Imitrex), not
eletriptan (Relpax), and it appears to me that the entire section
(proper use) refers to sumatriptan. For instance, sumatriptan (not
eletriptan) comes as a nasal spray, and the dosages are those for
sumatriptan, etc. I was an investigator on both drugs. Rxlist's
information has been wrong for at least the 3 weeks since I discovered
the error.
Here's the cut and paste (from your info on eletriptan):
"Proper use of this medicine
This medicine comes as a tablet to take by mouth and a nasal spray. When
you have a migraine headache, take your medicine as directed by your
doctor. Take one tablet as soon as you feel a migraine coming on. If
your headache improves and then comes back after 2 hours, you can take a
second tablet. If the first tablet did not help your headache at all, do
not take a second tablet without talking with your doctor. Do not take
more than 200 mg (sumatriptan) or 40 mg of the nasal spray in any
24-hour period. For nasal spray, read the handout that comes with this
medicine. Ask your pharmacist to explain any parts that you do not
understand."
When this is corrected, I'll retract my "warning" on the appropriate
Usenet ng. Your delay in answering has hurt your reputation. I said
"urgent", because I meant "urgent". The error could cause someone big
problems. 200 mg. of Relpax in 24 hours is about 2.5 times the safety
level established.
