Anyone ever had the experience of a "moving" migraine or headache? It
starts, for example, at the right temple then moves across the forehead, to
the left temple, and sometimes as far as behind the left ear. I can feel
something moving under the skin - like a bump. Very odd. Blood clot????

Mine will switch sides but it is always as though a line was drawn
down the middle of the skull and middle of the spine. Everything is
mirrored. I don't think this occured when I was young.

Right side is my worst so I prefer it to stay on the left or want it
to move if it started on the right. I once willed it back to the left
with a bribe of chocolate.

Not sure about the bump under the skin,I've never had that, but many
of my migraines move from place to place. Especially the ones that
last a long time.

Kadee, my symptom-twin, describes my "moving" migraines to a T. I call
them "flip-overs." They start on one side, flip over to the other side
and in really bad times, will flip back again to the first side,
resulting in more than a week of migraine. My right sided ones hurt
more but they are also fairly tractable to treatment with Amerge; my
left sided ones stay below 7 on a 10-point pain scale but no
medication of any kind can touch them. I did not have these flip-overs
when i was young. They developed around the age of 50, several years
before menopause.

Cat, my latest migraine round started 9 days ago and I've lost track of how
many flips it's done! In answer to the original question, yes my migraines
move, but I have never felt anything *moving*! Where exactly is it moving
under your skin, *anon*? No..no..don't think I want to go there, I've seen
too many alien movies...maybe you should show that to a Dr.

The ones that last long or are especially painful for me tend to be on one
side, but then just before the end, they switch to the other. I get
something of a relief just before they switch. It almost helps me know when
it will really end.

Interesting what we all encounter.

Oh yes, not infrequently at all. I hate when they do that, because just as
you think you've got the sucker under control, it goes & moves. I doubt
that you're feeling a blood clot, but otherwise have no response to the
"bump" part of your post

Wish I knew what was "moving". It feels like an alien movie. ha ha

I had the first one after a spinal tap last year the day after Christmas. I
have no idea if that's related. Forgetfullness seems to be a major symptom
with me. I keep forgetting to ask my neuro about the knot under the skin.

Yes, Anon, I have experienced the same thing. Years ago the HA was on
the right side of my forehead, years later it moved to the left and
stayed there until 4-5 years ago than moved to the center. It hurts no
matter where it is located. Do not know what it is called and dont knoiw
why they move. I know this does not answer your question, but I thought
I would tell you someone else has the sam thing. lee

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The moving headache - I can actually feel the bump
under the skin on my forehead moving and the headache moves with it. The
time period is usually an hour or so that it moves from right temple to
center to left temple. You can visibly see the knot under the skin (the
inflammation) moving. It's not hours or days but minutes.

Very odd feeling.

Or we can just call it gross. How awful to feel something like that. I'm
sure it would freak me out. I'd keep wanting to squish it.

Yes, he claims the knot I feel moving and can sometimes actually see is
inflammation moving along the vessel.

My body, nervous system are in such a constant state of chaos nothing
surprises me anymore.

They started by suspecting brain tumor, then MS ( numerous neuro. symptoms),
then decided it's just migraines. I went from having maybe one migraine a
month to anywhere from 1 - 7 a week. I also developed a chronic migraine at
the back of my head that has lasted on and off (mostly on ) for 1 1/2 years
now.
