Author storm on its way

My yhead is predicting a storm. The radio weatherman agrees with me.
Freezing rain and ice pellets mixed with snow. What fun!

I am off to rest in the dark as my head is throbbing.

(((((Kadee))))), feel better dear girl! We're getting hit with a similar
situation in Illinois!

I hope the storm passes quickly! I am in NJ and we got snowed and
rained on yesterday into this morning. My head was throbbing from
Monday afternoon through yesterday afternoon. We could seriously make
money as meterologists using our heads as storm predictors! ;)

Feel better!

Brace yourselves...the next storm is just heading in from the West coast.
Just hitting in Colorado about now...so should be coming your way.
Unfortunately :-(

Yea,, I woke up today to a very bad headache along with about every
joint in my body aching. I get up and go to my computer to check my
messages and such,, still getting caught up as my old computer died,,
hard drive smoked,, so rather than just getting a new hard drive I
went and got a whole new computer,, the old one was an old PII-233 so
it was time,, so now I'm trying to learn a new OS and catch up on
about a couple weeks worth of messages both here and in my
e-mail,,anyway one little app that is on this new machine is "Desktop
Weather" from The Weather Channel it popped up when I booted the
computer and it cc confirmed what I already knew,, wet weather was on
it's way. it also had this URL
http://www.weather.com/activities/h...rom=aplocalfcst

with articles on how cold weather affects the body.

I think I should go hibernate till spring.

Thanks, Bear. I will add that to my migraine weather bookmarks. This
map was interesting.
http://www.weather.com/maps/activit...ndex_large.html

as well as this article
http://www.weather.com/newscenter/t...emigraines.html
I just pasted this url into my migraine weather file and saw that I
already had it second on my list.

What do you think of this explanation?
http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/6346/quest4.htm
"Since migraine headaches have been somewhat of a medical mystery,
less is known about the affects of weather on those who suffer from
migraines. However, it has been shown that barometric pressure can
slightly alter the size of blood vessels. During times of high
barometric pressure, there is more physical pressure on blood vessels,
constricting the expansion of the vessel wall. Conversly, during times
of low barometric pressure, there is less pressure on blood vessels,
allowing the vessel wall to expand. This can sometimes cause
headaches."

back to the way they were a year ago and I'm hoping that gets rid of some

Glad to hear it!

I saw Dr. Klaiber ("Hormones and the Mind") last week. He's kicking
himself, but he's writing another book -- this one is to show how flawed the
studies have been with regards to HRT. He was funny... really pissed off
that they know they were wrong and will not say anything. I think it was
the Women's Initiative study using Prempro. He was really interesting..
funny guy kept me in the office talking for 45 minutes until his
receptionist buzzed him and tried to move him along!! Anybody else know a
doc like that? He's awesome!

Anyway he took a lot of blood again to see if we should do some "tweaking".
I'm doing fairly well so I doubt it.

Glad to hear you're better!!

For all of you that get the barometric pressure headaches, my 9 yr old
son does too. Its like clockwork. Even before the weatherman tells
that it will snow, Jr gets a screamer. We had MRIs and the works. I
thought it was sinus but no meds worked. We tried ibuprofen and no
luck. I FOUND A SOLUTION!!! I had a bean bag-like thing that is for
backs that straps around your waist. It goes in the microwave for 2
mins and heats up. I heat it up and he lays on it like a pillow and
within minutes he's back to normal! I have no idea why it works. You
may want to get one at Walgreens or any pharmacy and give it a try.
Good luck! (Its gonna snow any minute here -- we used it today)

I agree with him 100 percent. I was thrilled when the last study came out
and they were blasted for it as they didn't really do it correctly or have
the right study group. I have tons of printouts on that one and the last
one that seemed to freak out every gyno who doesn't care to do his or her
homework. In the meantime, some women are running around looking for a gun
:-) Hmmm, maybe they should do a study on the results of that stupid
study's effects on women when they took away all their hormones!!

I got my blood work done last week. My ferritin is down to 6 and that's
bad. My triglycerides almost tripled in the last couple of months...what is
up with that? I've never had my numbers over 175 and now it's at 385. Must
be those Christmas cookies. Well I'm back on my low carb diet, so we'll see
how it goes.

It's nice to hear you probably won't need any tweaking :-) I don't like
the tweaking of my hormones. YUK!

What's up with ferritin? I don't know much about the effect of being too
high or to low. I have a friend who's in the thyroid group on About.com and
she pleaded with her doc to take a ferritin test (very inexpensive she said)
but the doc refused saying it wasn't necessary. ?????

Don't know if Christmas cookies can raise your triclycerides that much but
if it can than mine are going to be through the roof!! Had a fast
cholesterol test with all the bloodwork and will know soon!! Your high
value might have been a lab error. At least I hope so.... that's a pretty
high number.

How's your head? Better?

My doctor told me to take my abortive meds when I know something is going to
blow into town. I now know that the convergence is what kills me here in
Colorado. In Texas it was typically the Lows that were hard on me, but then
how often do you get a convergence of an upper level low and the arctic
fronts in Texas :-)

Taking the abortive beforehand helps...I just don't think to do it often
enough.

The head is better, thanks! I am talking to my doctor on Tuesday and am
going to suggest we retest the cholesterol/triglycerides if she thinks it's
warranted...it's just so out of sync with the other numbers.

I always get my ferritin checked now...on the average every three months or
so. I've had low ferritin since 2000 (first test my new doctor did...thank
God) they don't know if I've had it low for a long time before then. They
now think it's genetic as they have looked at all the reasons for it, and
can't find one. My sister has some similar problems, so maybe so. In any
case, I have to take the 325 mg Ferrous Sulfate every day. Whenever I slack
off, I end up low in the single digits. I've never seen my number over
35...which is still low. My doctor would like to see it at 60 or
higher...yeah, in her dreams, and mine :-)

Anyone with a thyroid problem should have the ferritin tested as I do
believe I've read there are connections with the problems. I get my thyroid
tested probably once or twice a year. I think some doctors are really
ignorant of the ferritin, hematocrit, hemoglobin and the anemia issues.
Once I had it all explained to me after a bacterial infection last year, it
was easy to understand why I felt like crap.

Also, low ferritin will cause constant headaches and fatigue is constant.
It's awful to have a brain that wants to get out of bed, but a body that
just can't. That's usually a cue for me.

Anyway, now I've really rambled. I do feel better though and I hope it gets
better as I take better care of myself.

Oh and your friend, I'd tell her to get another doctor...at least to get
tested and probably another opinion.

Michelle

My levels have been low all my life. Taking tablets has never domne
anything to raise it. I had to have the haematologist called while in
labour as the nurses were panicking after my blood tests and doctor
wanted to be sure the hospital would not be calling for a transfusion.
Levels in my bone marrow were fine however.

I think mine is genetic.

My cholestrol and triglycerides always test below normal too which is
a good thing.

I get mine tested regularly too. They tested every week when pregnant.
I get my thyroid tested regularly too. So far, I don't show a problem

Did, when you *know* a cold blast is coming down from Canada to hit
Illinois, would you please advise? ;-) How much snow do you have on the
ground? Our 8 inches would probably look measly to you! The deepest snow I
can remember here was probably 2 feet but then more came and I don't
remember how much we had but getting in to town we drove through these way
high snow tunnels! (After the snow plows went through). Now *that* was the
*storm of the century*! I'm still waiting for the next one, and I have no
idea why I feel such exhilaration from a huge snow storm (must stem from
childhood), but I do!

We don't have much snow on the ground here. The rain on the weekend
washed it away. I think we will be getting some tonight but don't know
how much. Last time, the storm came north from your area, I think.

We used to get big storms when I was a kid but the kids don't get as
many days off school in our area. They did have 1 day due to freezing
rain and ice pellets but all around us had another day off in Jan.

I remember one major storm where school was closed for days. Cars
parked along the road were buried and people skied or snowmobiled over
them. My cousins couldn't get out one door as the snow drift was as
high as the door. I think that was in the 70s- maybe 1977?? Some other
big storms earlier in the 70s.

Hey Sage, there's a nasty cold front poised to spread over the great lakes
on the way to the east. Not sure if it will go all the way to
Illinois...but probably will. Buckle down and load up on the blankets :-)

That just blows me away Did, that's probably the same storm I'm remembering,
had to be somewhere around '77-'78; we have a tri-level home and the drifts
completely covered the lower level windows, and we couldn't get out the
patio door. The ice was so thick on the roof that somehow it would move or
something and it was so loud I thought the house was ripping apart! We lost
power and had only the fireplace for warmth and food. I've got pics
somewhere...

Up here in the Northeast it was the famous Blizzard of '78. From then on
every time a few flakes fall, every one panics and runs to the store to buy
staples (not the metal kind.... bread, milk, chocolate) !! The weathermen
love to feed on that anxiety... all of our TV stations have "storm centers".

We were in tough shape then. Cars banned from the roads for days while the
National Guard helped get us back up and running. My daughter, then 5, came
down with pneumonia right in the middle of it and we had to be taken to the
hospital in a big truck!! We lived in a real family neighborhood then and
we all "pooled" our food and great one great feast! I can't believe I
thought that was fun!! Not any more, I'm too old for that now.

Just came in from outside... Hey, who opened the window? It's freezing out
there!

We had our own supplies on the farm - lots of meat and fruits and
vegetables which had been "canned". Later when I was working away from
home, all the single people would get togetrher and pool supplies too.
I lived in a northern community with 1 road into town. When that was
closed, no trucks could get in so the stores got pretty bare.

We are used to power outages here and have a couple of stoves for heat
and nonperishable goods stocked away. We can always use a camping
stove or the barbecue.

seven western N.Y. counties were declared a national disaster area.

1978
Feb. 6-8, eastern U.S.: Blizzard of 1978 battered the East Coast,

My doctor told me to take my abortive meds when I know something is going to
blow into town. I now know that the convergence is what kills me here in
