Sorry to be a pest, but...
|
|
| Mark Goff 2004-11-16, 4:50 pm |
| I feel like I'm at my wits end - I posted earlier on here.
I have had a "sinus like" headache for 8 weeks now - symptoms include a very
warm forehead, and sinus pressure from all the areas associated with
sinusitis (eyes are really sore and burn, above eyebrows, ears, jaw,
cheekbones) - only problem is my allergist and ENT BOTH say it's NOT a sinus
infection. I had an MRI and CT scan done, as well as a physical - nothing
but slight inflammation above my eyes, but nothing that would cause this
(according to the specialists).
I've also been to my medical doctors, chiropractor, dentist, optometrist and
massage therapist - I still feel miserable.
Does this sound like a migraine to anyone?
I have irrigated my sinus cavity on and off since I had endoscopic sinus
surgery in March - my question is:
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT SOME OF THE WATER SOLUTION IS STILL IN MY SINUS CAVITY?
I know it sounds strange, and I wouldn't have ever thought of that, but the
past few days, when I have been my head over, my nose has dripped a few
drops - I've NEVER had that happen before, even when I was experiencing my
sinusitis.
Is this even a possibility, or am I grasping at straws?
I have an appointment with a neurologist next week - I don't know what else
to do.
I sure appreciate any insight!
Thank you.

| You certainly are NOT a pest!! Please feel comfortable enough with us to
ask any questions!! I'm so sorry that you've been suffering so long with
head pain. Did Kati-did send you her wonderful headache links? There might
be a lot of information in those for you.
I'm sorry, but I don't remember if you are on any preventative meds for the
headaches...or any meds for that matter. There are so many ways to go with
this that I think you're doing the right thing by going to a neurologist.
Don't forget to take a list of the current meds you take - prescription AND
over the counter. Sometimes they can cause head pain.
I sure hope you can get some help with this... keep in touch and let us
know what you're neuro says...

| Mark,
Going to a neurologist is exactly the thing to do. Here's an article that
may be interesting to you:
Sinuses Giving You a Headache? It's Probably a Migraine.
If you've tried various over-the-counter sinus medications to relieve your
sinus headaches to no avail, there may be a good reason: chances are you
don't have a sinus headache at all. Nearly 9 in 10 people with sinus
headache symptoms likely are suffering from Migraines.

Good luck,

| Pest??? I don't see any pests in here! :-) ...just a guy in pain who needs
help. Sounds like the neuro might be your best bet Mark. Years ago, when
the migraines were starting to invade my life (called them sick headaches
then), I often thought it was my sinuses and took various OTC meds to no
avail. Hopefully the neuro will be able to put some perspective on this.
Good Luck and please post and let us know how things go, ok?
Hugs,
~Sage

you with any certainty. You're quite welcome. Is there any history of
Migraine in your family?

| Actually, pretty good. After starting my new job about three weeks ago, the
migraines have decreased quite a bit. I have also stopped my Protonix and
that decreased a nightly migraine. Now I just have heartburn off and on :-)
Oh well. Pretty good overall, but two classes in a semester was a big
mistake...I won't do that again. I'm excited for Christmas.
How are you? I think it's getting quieter and nicer again in here...so
maybe we can get back to normal fun. (I whispered that).

| In my own circumstances Feverfew didn't work. Magnesium is a required for
women anyway for the most part and my neurologist says for people with
migraines it's a good idea.
This group is open to just about anything that works, believe me...well
within reason ;-)
I've not had magnesium do anything for my migraines.

I use magnesium, and find it helps a bit. Feverfew worked well for me
for a few years - until I ended up allergic to it and ragweed.
As with prescription meds, you do have to worry about contraindications
and interactions. Magnesium can cause muscle cramps if you don't take
enough calcium and high doses have a laxative effect. Feverfew has
blood thinning properties.
Hope this helps.

I haven't considered feverfew due to allergies to similar plants. I
take magnesium and co-enzyme Q10 for other reasons and find that my
migraines have improved as well. I have less frequent bouts (at one
time I was having 4-5 days a week) and the number of severe ones has
decreased.
My main triggers are odours and I have become very vigilant at
avoiding as much of the outside world as I can. My triggers are
perfume, smoke, cleaning products, room deodorizers, carpet
fresheners, scented or fragranced products, cut grass, tar, mould,
pollen . . . I am also sensitive to barometric pressure changes.
If I could hibernate in my allergy free home away from any odours, I
could eliminate my migraines. Unfortunately, I do have to go out.

| Glad you're doing well, Michelle. Always glad to read about someone's
Migraines decreasing. Good for you!! Sorry about the heartburn though. UGH!
How many classes do you have left?
I'm doing well, thanks. My preventives are doing so great. I had 75
pain-free days between my last two Migraines. The problem is, now that I
have heart disease, I can't have triptans. We haven't found anything yet
that does much for the Migraines I do get. Indocin, Fioricet #3, Vicodin,
Percocet, and Dilaudid -- all taken with Compazine -- did about as much good
for the pain as taking Tic-Tacs. The Compazine did great for nausea, but the
pain was still there, and drives my blood pressure into the danger range.
We'll find something eventually.
Finished my book, and got it off to my editor. I'm waiting for her to send
it back to me for revisions. It won't be out until next November. Now, I'm
trying to catch up on all those little things that were neglected while I
finished the book.
Guess I should think about Christmas, too, especially with the seven
grandkids.

| Well we certainly wait in anticipation for that book! That's so cool.
I have probably four classes in a new major. I changed my mind :-) and
decided to add a marketing major to my already strong technical background.
I'll start on a new degree when I'm done with those classes. I just love
school and being challenged...only I'm NOT taking more than one class...I'll
keep telling myself that.
Yes, you must get started on Christmas...I'll start my list for you ;-)
