| my ISP is killing access to usenet as of Dec. 15 - I am SO not happy with
them! they suggest ca.yahoo.groups as an ~alternative~ I think NOT
Am looking at other options - Canadian co. that I can pay in Canadian funds
preferred, if I can find one....
any recommendations appreciated

news.individual.net ... its not free but its only 10Euros *a year* which is
about $14CAD I think.
v good quality, and they remove a lot of junk spam posts as well.
www.individual.net
You pay via credit card so it doesnt matter its not CAD $

If you are looking for text only, there are some cheap or free alternatives.
They tend to be harder to find, and the free ones limit posting and might not be
available all the time. Several sites maintain lists and reliability of the free
servers.
Here's one company that offers free access with some limitations on dowloads per
day. I have not used them, so I can't confirm if they are any good:

My provider, Newsguy, at http://www.newsguy.com/overview.htm, offers an annual
pricing of 39.95 US for their basic service. I can vouch for their reliability.
Here's a decent list of premium providers with pricing and links.

I'll second this. They do some basic spam filtering that helps
tremendously.
The server is based in Germany, and they don't carry binary groups, but
as long as you don't feel the need for pr0n or pirated software, they
are a great provider.
