Keep in mind that telecoils pick up audio and magnetic interference as
well. So the stronger the field you are able to generate with the loop,
the less susceptible to this noise you will be. Multi turn neck loops
are good for this since they are not peak field limited like amplifiers
with similar gain would be, and they are passive.

If you are developing your own, the Radio shack telephone pick-up coil
for recording is a useful field testing device when used with a
multi-meter with audio response (or even with their low cost
speaker-amplifier).

Here is a way to calculate the direction and strength of your loop's
magnetic field:
