POCKETTALKER PRO is too loud

| My POCKETTALKER PRO is too loud and I have a 50db loss in each ear
along with chronic tinnitus.
Could there be a defect in the POCKETTALKER itself? If I try to contact
WilliamsSound directly, they'll just refer me to a dealer. I've
tried various headsets, but none work as well as the one that came with
the
POCKETTALKER.
Any electronics techs, engineers or musicians out there who can give
advice?

| I don't have a PocketTalker. Is there no volume control?

There are two potentiometers inside the back cover, one is for tone
and the other is for volume. Sometimes reading the accompanying
manual material can be quite helpful, I recommend giving it a try.

| Goofed on the other message try--clearly I'm new at this <smile>.
Thanks to all who have replied so far. Just a couple of points:
-the volume control is set at 0; that's why I'm having such a problem
-I'll see if I can find a manual (that's one case in which the mfr
website might be helpful); I've had this puppy for awhile...
Keep the ideas coming!
Best,

| 1. Try varying the control from 0. Does it get any louder? If not there
probably is an open connection (bad solder joint) at the volume control.
2. Are you using the unit's own microphone for the sound source or have you
plugged in something else? If it is an external source you might be driving
things much too hard with the input.

| 1.Yes,
2. Yes and no.
Thank you for your knowledgeable response. It doesn't look like there's
anything I can do with the instrument because it just has a hard wired
circuit board.

| I ordered a new PT today, from Curtis' company. The one I had has
probably never worked well. Learning about the adjustments that can be
made on the new ones was the clincher.
What a great group this is! You really helped clear out some of the
cobwebs between my ears <smile>.

Only the "PRO" model has the internal adjustments. You claimed
to have a "PRO" and asked a question specific to a "PRO" model.
Evidently you didn't have a "PRO" model after all.

| Yes, in fact I do. However, it was manufactured before the features
were added.

| I stand corrected.I finally found the two potentiometers and figured
out how to tweak them. Now I just have to decide what to do about the
new order. Anyway, thanks for your persistence.

Well, good for you. I'm sure you can cancel the order even if you
have to pay a 20% restocking fee it would be better than eating
it. I used mine a lot in the past, however very little recently. If a
person couldn't afford hearing aids, the Pockettalker would make
a very good substitute.
